The afternoon after reading 4ndelit's post about buying a minivan I happened to be stuck in stop and go traffic. I was behind a minivan, a Chrysler Town & Country model. Visibility around, and over it, was NOT any better than visibility over and around my wife's Yukon. So much for the "blocking my view" argument.

And what about pick-up truck? What about jacked-up 4x4 truck? I mean, the "visibility" argument is totally meritless in light of some many other bigger and wider vehicles out on the road.

The gas economy argument is equally invalid. 4ndelit's 450 Benz averages about 15 mpg. It carries only two people. That means that it takes 0.5 gallon of gas per person to go 15 miles (premium fuel only. My wife has averaged better than 16 mpg with a full load of kids and gear (that's eight people). That works (assuming only 15 mpg) to 0.125 gallon of gas per person (regular gas). So which vehicle is more efficient?

JPhilips, welcome to the board. I'll tell you what, if you are willing to buy my family a safe, comfortable, fuel efficent extra vehicle, then I promise that my wife will drive her Yukon only when she ABSOLUTELY, COMPLETELY, DEFINITELY needs to drive it. I'll give you an address to where you can deliver it.

first off, delete one of your posts, you posted 2 of the same thing. second, re-read my post, I'm not sure you read everything before making your comments. I clearly said "It is currently my everyday driver because I don't have the money to buy another car, and if I do sell it, I'm sure it will be driven less that it is right now, thus lessening the impact on our environment. I will be driving a more efficient vehicle everyday, and all will be good." I have no choice, and am stuck with the SL, like it or not (I do like it though). It does not take premium fuel... you're sadly mistaken. On top of that, I am a college student who lives at home, so the most I will need to drive ever are me and my backpack, no kids for soccer games or anything like that. As far as minivans, they are smaller than many SUV's I see around here (you don't see any lifted minivans, there are plenty of lifted escalades and yukons), minivan lights don't glare right in your eyes like SUV's do (I especially HATE the new hummer H2 and the new Land Rover's

), and I never said a jacked up 4x4 was any better (don't know where you got that from). As far as an extra vehicle, if you will buy me a 190E, I'll gladly drive that as my daily commuter and keep the 450SL for meets.

....I DID NOT post my message twice. I have no idea why the post showed twice. Second, I did read your post. I was referring to comments made in general, not specifically to your comments. Third, if you are serious about helping the environment and being a responsible human being you do HAVE A CHOICE. Sell your car, buy a bike , ride your bike and carry your backpack to school and donate the money left over to some worhtwhile pro-enviromental cause. When I was in college I drove and operated the car that I bought with the money that I earned working, not a car that was given to me. Therefore I had a choice on what kind of a car I drove. As long as I worked and paid for my own things I always had a choice.

Look, you drive what you want, I drive what I want and what I can afford, and we'll leave it at that. When you get married and have kids, you pack your wife and rugrats in a minivan and go on your merry way. I won't attack your choice of vehicles and don't you attack my choice of vehicles. It's all about choices. Ad while we are at it, you don't tell me what deity to worship (in order to be a REAL man) and I won't tell you what deity to worship.

must have been the website's mistake then. I would be more than happy to sell my car, but I think I'll buy another car... biking 30 miles is not exactly time efficient. As for choice, I had a perfectly good Audi quattro I inherited, but my parents gave it away when we moved, so it was their job to give me a replacement. Lastly, the quote in my signature is just something someone I respect said, you don't have to agree with it at all, you can believe whatever you want.
