I knew y'all would like the Corvette comment. I was chuckling a bit myself when I wrote that one. I knew it would give a good visual.

It's True! It's True!

I kid you not, most Corvette owners are bald-headed, middle-aged men. I tested my theory in states like Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, and yes, California. Am I wrong? ... Please chime in folks.

I'd hate to burst someone’s bubble but the hairy chest, gold chain wearing analogy is as old as the Stingray.

The typical Ferrai owner? There is no such thing. Most are wealthy, of course (new car buyers especially) and ten to be entrepreneurs. Other than that, they come from all backgrounds.
There is a young fellow (can't recall his name) that invented the game Doom that has a fleet of Ferrari's. Sports stars. Ralph Lauren. And so one. That's a pretty diverse group. Bill Gates has gold chains? The chief engineer for GM? The one thing I have noticed is that unlike many SL buyers, they pay cash. I always thought the SL buyer was well-heeled, but it turns out about half the new SL buyers are working stiffs that stretch tot he last penny to make the lease payment on an SL. According to MB Canada, the average income for an SL buyer was barely more than the C-Class buyer. Go figure.

Anyways, back to the topic..... S600(Bi-Turbo) can be insanely fast, and even more so with ECU upgrade.... I have seen vid clips of a S600 w/Renntech ECU upgrade running 11.78@130(give or take 3 mph) on drag strip......

The marketing info that MB Canada had at the dealer indicated:
Average income of all MB buyers (Canadian buyers): $156,000 Average income of C-Class: $135,000 Average income of SL: $140,000 Income for S-Class buyers was over $200K. And once again getting back to topic, there is some feeling with respect to Ferrari that real quality gains have been made. It's been a long road, but I think even Ferrari buyers are beginning to expect cars that are reasonably reliable.

John as usual your right on target.
![]() Regarding typical Ferrari owners I think they are very similar to Porsche owners based on my own observations at Ferrari club events. Contrary to popular belief I have found that the Ferrari crowd is much more outgoing and friendly than other groups that I have mingled with. Yes most of the owners are rich but many of them owned them when they were poor like me. If I wanted a performance car for getting around town it would be a toss up between a 911, 928 or NSX. I must add that the Modena is very civilized and nice to drive around town, but they are just to expensive to drive into the ground. If money was no object I would own the following. 1. MB S500 4matic family cruiser 2. MB S55 Topless roadster and convertible ![]() 3. Ferrari 575M For sports around town and Highway 4. Ferrari 275 GTS ----------------- Nostalgia 5. Chevy Avalanche Now if you want to meet a bunch of A-holes go to a Corvette GTG. I had the misfortune of being in the same hotel as one a year ago and those guys were the biggest pricks I have ever encountered. I went as far as telling a waitress that I was not with that group, she replied "finally someone that will tip and not pat my A$$." |
