I live in NJ. My Verizon contract is about to expire and I'm checking into other providers since Verizon isn't offering any help in pricing at all when we only use 1/2 of our allotted minutes. I did give them the benefit of the first call.
Other large providers T-Mobile and AT&T are offering $200-300 rebates plus new, free phones. I told verizon this and they didn't seem interested. We're looking at saving at least $200 by switching to another large provider. If anyone could help out in this decision I'd greatly appreciate it by providing what provider you're with and your experience. IE. what towns you receive/make calls with no problem vs. towns where you get no reception. I've heard T-Mobile is lousy in Livingston. Any other opinions?

I have been a customer of ATT Wireless for four years and am happy with their service. I did the same thing when the number portability law became effective, and went out shopping around. I called ATT and told them my intention, this is what they did for me: increase my prime time minutes for an additional 300 minutes and a new phone. All the same price with nation wide no roaming service.
One thing I like about ATT Wireless as oppose to other carriers is that once you have the signal, your call will never drop. Whereas other carriers will drop your call when the signal becomes weak or the channel is too congested. On the flip side, you have to get a signal first from ATT. With that said, I have not had any experience not getting a signal from ATT. And I travel all over the country.

What I was hoping for..
Wow, my post wasn't up 5 minutes. This place is great. Your experience with AT&T was what I was hoping from Verizon. I'd like to think they want to keep the business they have. Your response was the kind of thing I was hoping for.
C'mon..the rest of you , please offer your experience.

When I lived...
In the states, I had Sprint PCS. I never used my home land line. Always made my calls, including international, from the cell.
I found that the reception was very good and the customer service was excellent. Everytime I saw an ad on the television offering special deals from the competition, I would call (free call from the cell) Sprint Customer Service. I would tell them of the deal that the competition was offering and they would not necesarily always match it but make up for it with credit amount in minutes or more often $$$ credit on my monthly statements. Furthermore, there was a time that I felt that the phone that I had was acting up and not getting the best reception anymore (I guess I dropped it one too many times) and I called at 6:30 PM complaining to customer service and by 10:00 AM next day I had a brand new phone on my doorstep! My experience......... Iggy
