My blower motor fuse holder melted over time...

My blower motor fuse holder melted over time causing a burnt smell. Not sure if your model has the same holder. Coffin like fuseholder next to left shock tower on my 1989 w124.

Combination relay. Wiper, signal and hazard contacts break over time. Heard a rattling sound when I pulled mine out and shook it. Around $50 for a new relay or you can take a chance on a junkyard...

My burnt CCU's included blowing fuse #6 and a melted blower fuse box. All traced to a bad ignition switch creating high electrical resistance in the circuit.

Most of mine broke too. Got another filter housing from a slightly newer w124 at Pic and Pull a few years back. Still intact so far. Cost around $15 back then.

My ignition switch had to be changed due to similar issues. The electrical contacts degraded and built up resistance that lead to electrical gremlins. The tumblers were OK.

OVP relay may be the culprit. Many posts about electrical gremlins when the fuse pops or the relay itself goes bad. Use the search feature to locate them.

Check the blower motor strip fuse located in a plastic coffin like box off the left front shock tower. It may be bad even though it looks intact.

My blower was stuck on high heat and would not turn off. Turned out to be a bad climate control unit. Found a couple of them at local Pic & Pulls for as low as $16.99.

That was the source of my noise last year. I took apart the connection and used a lubricant on the bushing as a temporary fix until I get around replacing the both links. The noise has not returned...

The lighting for the temperature wheel is dim on one of the ccu's pulled. Both lights on the front of the panel work but only the wheel is dim. Any ideas?

Fuse #6 (turn signals among a few other things)...

Fuse #6 (turn signals among a few other things) kept blowing when the climate control system was on, but not when off. A Mercedes tech substituted another ccu for testing and everything worked fine....
