Maybe just maybe.
I know it's along shot but some of you may know if I can get history of a repair that was done on the 300E by the previous owner by a Houston MB dealer. The cr head gasket blew out and they repaired it to the tune of 7k bucks.
Now that the car has been totalled I am trying to prove to the adjustor that in fact a repair for that value was perfomed not too long ago. The previous owner didn't keep the receipt when I bought the car but I know the work was done because they are friends of mine. Any idea how I can get information with regards to that repair? Thanks.

For "7K bucks" (uh, that's $7000.00) they could have installed a new Mercedes-Benz long block and taken you and a friend out for a nice steak dinner at a 4 Star restaurant. Maybe you mean $700.00, that'd be closer to what a head gasket job would cost.
The dealer should be able to provide some sort of printout of the service records. I don't think it's going to matter to the adjuster either way that a bunch of mechanical work was just done. Gilly

Whatever the cost of the repair you should be able to get a copy of it. I would think if it's actually $7,000 the adjuster would have a hard time completely ignoring it. I used to have no trouble getting prior owner service tickets from dealers on cars that I purchased. But the last time I tried, a few months ago, the dealer sited "privacy" concerns and wouldn't give me anything - unless I got a signed and notarized letter of permission from the prior owner who had the work done - which I got. This shouldn't be a problem if you know the prior owner. I would think it's worth a try.

Hate to say it but my friend spent somewhere in the 6k to 8K bucks for the repair, they claim that the temp gauge or idiot light was not working and his wife basically drove it without coolant. I also think they installed a new wire harness at that time because it is very pliable for a car with 110k miles.
I will try to contact the dealer and ask for a copy of the invoice. Thanks.

You say it's a 300E, so I am assuming it's a 103 engine. They don't really have a wiring harness issue, it's the 320E/E320 with the 104 motor that have wiring issues.
I am sure the insurance Co is going to disregard this totally if it didn't come out of your own pocket, and even if it did they spent WAY too much to replace a head gasket, in alot of cases maybe even close to what the cars value is. If this is really what they spent, they are probably trying to actually HIDE the info from you, because something very bad happened if they charged $7000 to replace a head gasket. The insurance Co works off of things like Kelly Blue Book to determine value if it is totalled. Gilly
