Clearly, your car has a problem. You can make it start in first by shifting into
2nd, lever all the way back. I think I'm remembering, my '90 300E correctly.

Anyway, 0 to 60 should come up between 8 and 9 seconds.

Victor,
I have several of these cars, and they all scoot. You need to have the car checked professionally. A good MB mechanic can check your cats for restriction in a few minutes with a vacuum gauge. He can also check the o2 sensor for proper operation.

The kickdown switch under the gas pedal kicks down the transmission on these models from 2nd to 1st from a standing start.

Or, ... while you're waiting at the light, shift down to your lowest geat, wait a second or two and then shift back to drive. It will start in first that one time and then back to normal again.

Let's see...peeling out and 13 mpg. Are these two not synonymous?

Amen to Duke's comment.

There should be an age restriction. THAT IS WHY I never frequent that "other" MB forum, can't remember the name , its just "hey did you get that tip on your car" or "hey how do I fit 5 12" in the trunk", or "hey I am going to put an intercooler from a Mitsubishi Fuso in my benz (they don't know the benz isn't turbo), lol.... or "hey how do I fit the Subaru seats in my W124?" or "hey did you get the new remote kotex dispenser for the glove box?"... :

Its all good , LOL

why do you want your car to peel???
Why dont you just drive your car in the snow or rain if you want your rear wheels to slip...

Ok, in all seriousness. I was joking a "little" bit before, but I imagine you drive your car very hard, stepping on it at each light, not letting it warm up, etc. That will affect your fuel mileage as well.

To make up for it, I have attached some items that might help you gain some hp and looks at the local bowling alley hang out on Sat night...

For the above, I think the visual effect alone would help

Someone was asking about a turbo for the w124... HERE you go, thank me later. This is good enough even for my W124

Bare with me... last upgade..make it two more

There you go , with all of the above upgrades, your car WILL be peeling out!

Someone said you should be getting 20 city 25 hwy. NO WAY this is way to high. 13 is too low though. I have a 90 300e 3.0 4 matic and i get 17 city and around 20 highway. on a good day. remamber 4 matic is a lttle heavier than your car. As far as starting in second gear, i agree this is stupid. It took me awhile to get use to this. My E320 1999 has a switch you can start in 1st ( summer mode) or 2nd ( winter mode) I just trick my 90 sometimes. while stopped, shift into 2 and then back to drive. This will trick the tranny, and you will start in 1st gear. You have to do this everytime you stop though. You can send in you valve body and have it reworked so it will start in 1st all the time. think around 300 bucks

I want to thank everyone for input and info. I had my mixture adjusted with duty cycle meter and taped idle air vale hose with duct tape until I receive new hoses. I have O2 sensor checked. It gave me good readings. i also checked my fuel correction system checked. It also work good. Spark is good and strong. I cleaned rotor and distributor cap. With mixture adjusted and distributor cleaned car accelerates better. Thanks to forum members for info. I also found out that my EGR valve membrane doesnt hold vacuum. By the way can I drive without EGR valve operating? I will try to disconnected my cat this sunday if Ill have time. As some people would think that Im pushing the car a lot and expecting 300E to be rice rocket thus Im getting 13mpg. I can reply that I dont do those kind of things. I dont want car to peel off every intersection. The only think that I want more acceleration is because I almost got rear ended entering highway ramp. I dont floor cars so I didnt do it this time but I think I should do it entering highways. I pressed on gas pedal about 3/4 but car was really slow and I almost got into accident. Since I dont have 2 300Es to drive I cannot compare my car good running car. I was right about 13mpg being way low I remember my 420sel had about 12mpg and that was bigger displacement and heavier. Ill try do fix as much as I can and now I know to expect around 20mpg. Thanks again. Ill post updates with progress. Maybe this thread will help other members

Your powerband is in the 2500 to 4000 rpm range, so it is not a city racer, more suited for highway speeding The Eaton supercharger is a mod in progress, and the guy that is doing it, has yet to complete his project.

Don't mind the sarcasm, thats just a way of telling you not to expect a "tire smoking" 300E.
Can you share any more info about the $350 valve body ugrade?
I am buying a new transmission for my 300ce probably this week and was wondering whether to buy the 2nd gear start that was originally on the car or if I should go for the 1st gear start. Do you have any experience with this or preference?

Thank You

It is designed to smoothly accelerate and maintain high speed for as long as you wish. (in Germany anyway) It won't do wasteful thing such as burn the rubber before the car is even moving!

If that's what you want, then this is a wrong car for you.

You should get at least 20MPG in city.

Mine is 1994. It does the first gear start and have 217HP. On dry pavement, if I floor the pedal, it will give me an impressive startup, but it still won't squeal, unless I hit the painted part of the pavement or something.

Have you ever driven a 2nd gear start W124? Any idea on how it compares to your 1st gear start?

Thank You

Why dont you go out and try it in your W124? Just put the gear selector down a notch or two from drive, and it will start in first.

Here is the Bregwerks link for the 1st gear control module HERE . The valve body link is under construction, but this should give you an idea of what the valve body does. The control module is electronic and gives you the option of turning 1st gear start on or off. The valve body is an updated transmission component, and can not be turned off, first gear start is permanent. The results are both the same, you get 1st gear start, but the electronic one will not work in the 300E.
