Help: odd starting patterns
1987 300E
I recently replaced the EHA. The old one was leaking and causing a gas smell to enter cabin. That problem is fixed. However, now I have some odd starting issues: 1. Starts flawlessly when cold. 2. Very hard to start when warm but has sat for a little while. I seem to have "made it better" twice now by removing the air cleaner. I was just checking things out, didn't find anything, but car then started reluctantly. 3. Funny thing is, I can drive the car long enough to warm it thouroughly, cut it off and restart immediately with no problem. It's only after the car sits warm for a little while that I have troubles. 4. Car seems to run a little reluctantly now and again. Almost wants to bog down at idle, seems to be a little sluggish on acceleration, nothing too frequent or heinous, but noitceable. I have "searched" and found numerous threads on this topic, but it seemed to me that it must somehow be related to the EHA replacement? Should I try the "famous EHA adjustment" trick? I think I'd consider just having the mixture checked and adjusted first.

Have it checked by a professional? Why would replacing the EHA upset the fuel mixture? I don't mean to be difficult, it just seems to me that replacing the EHA has somehow caused this "warm-start" problem. Maybe I upset one of the vacuum hoses whilst replacing the EHA? Jimmy |

Would need to check the rest pressure.
When it is turned off, there should be about 35psi pressure in the system with a lower limit of 28 psi after 20 minutes. If it goes to zero real quick the fuel pump/s check valve/s are/is suspect. Without this rest pressure, the fuel vaporises in the injection lines causing hard warm restart. .

The EHA has "everything" to do with the mixture, adjusts the pressure differential between the upper and lower chambers, which is, in effect, your mixture setting. The mixture should "always" be checked when replacing the EHA.
