One other thing that just crossed my mind, mainly b/c this happened on this Forum with another head gasket job.

The guy was having these problems and after many test, we found that the guy who did the head accidentally swapped the connectors at the ETC sensor and the Cam sensor....so, ceck that..long shot, but it did happen and is in the archieves.

Talking

Arthur, if you ever find yourself within 100 miles of Houston, I'll buy dinner!

Take a look at this picture:

The wires in this connector exactly match the color specs as indicated by the wiring diagram for 10/8 - Blue / Grey Stripe and Brown / Yellow Stripe.

I wondered why that connection was stretched so far....

Reversing the connectors and running a quick sensor value check reveals expected values and no more constant fans!

I'm gonna go punch my mechanic in the nose!!!

It's no big deal to put the HVAC wire on the cam advance servo - no voltage is in that circuit and I don't think the servo will care. However, there is voltage in the advance servo connector, which was connected to a circuit that's grounded!!!! Hopefully, the solid-state nature of the control systems will just log a code and keep on truckin'...

I need to pull codes next to see what if anything is wrong.

But for now - the HVAC (and I) are very happy!!!

Thanks LOADS!!!!

You'e Welcome.
I like solving those tricky ones that all the books and manuals can't.... ...only tool is past Experiences..
Another one on those 104s is guys cross connect the two SOVs under the front cover for the EGR and AIR pump..that one is a more common mistake b/c they are stacked on one another.....something to keep in mind.

Clever boy...

Last night, I checked the readings between the wires on the connector for the ECT. Key off - readings never stayed steady. Danced from 0 to about 500 ohms, I think.
I didn't check each wire to ground - I'll try that tonight.

This weekend, I plan to pull codes from the computer that controls the cam advance to see if it's totally p-o'd about having it's connector attached (almost) to ground...

Next stop is the shop that I paid a lot of money for this headgasket job. Purpose - kneecap the smarmy little b'tard that told me "If you're not prepaired to pay to do it right, I'd suggest you take your car elsewhere..."

What a conversation that's gonna be.
