got confused with my lug bolts for W210 rims and 8 hole rims
Hi guys - I think I messed up on my lug bolts. I have an after market set of W124 style 8 hole rims that are for the snow tires for the Turbo diesel. The lug bolts for the summer stock rims are very different and with some of them seizing and snapping off and having to be replaced I forgot which ones go with the OEM rims for the '99 W210.
Can someone post a picture of what one of them looks like? I should be able to tell because they have very different profiles and shoulders. if I do have the wrong set of lug bolts is that a huge concern. I did get about 5-6 full turns on them before torque to 82 ft/lbs.

this is from ebay. i don't have a w210 at the moment but i do have a w124 if you need a pic of that. the w210 and w124 should be similar in thread length. the overall length of the bolt is different to provide better access at the wheel face i.e. bolt head flush w/ outside of hole. i've used short lugs and had to use the deep impact socket to 'start' them in the hub. i also frequently use the long lugs to hold wheels on parts cars after using the correct lugs for other cars....funny looking to see them sticking out past the wheel Quote:

The stock bolts are quite different between a 124 and a 210. You shouldn't be able to mix them up.

dtf, as far as I know the seat contour, length from the seat to the end of threads, and the diameter of 124 lug bolts and 210 lug bolts for the E320 are identical. I have E420 wheels on our 1998 E320, and those wheels do not require the extended shank lug bolts that came with the stock E320 15-hole wheels. Since the E420 wheels have a polished metal rim I swapped chrome lug bolts from our 1991 300CE (a 124 car) because they provided a more stylish appearance. I torque the lug bolts for both cars to 80 ft/lbs.

Thanks guys! turns out I did have the right lug bolts in based on Hogweed's picture. So I called Tire Rack to see if they still have the replica rims i bought from them and they had record of it and now i can buy replacement lug bolts for the replica 8 hole that i put snow tires on.
ASA Type 8 Silver Painted I think Shertex also mentioned in a previous search on 'siezed up lug bolts' that MB offers short shank modified lug bolts for OEM rims so they won't twist. Gotta look those up too.

MB discontinued the longer shank lug bolts for the 210 wheels because they would twist and break off if an air impact wrench was used to loosen them. But the new bolts are too short and don't quite look right since they aren't flush with the surface of the wheel. I sorted this by not using an impact wrench and advising any service tech likewise. No impact wrench and no problem. If you simply use a proper breaker, long handled ratchet, or the like, they come loose, no problem and no breakage.
I even acquired another set of the longer bolts along the way and have extra in case I break another. But I haven't for many years now that I am aware of the problem using air impact to loosen those bolts.
