Can you please inform me on how to change the fuel filter on a 1991 300D 2.5 TD? I just did the litle clear filter, without a problem. The main fuel filter looks like it is held on by the bolt on top. Where do the 2 tny rubber washers go? Do you have to undo the fuel filter bracket, it looks like it will not come out with all of the hoses in the way?
If anyone can shed some light on this, that would be great. Thanks!

You can do it without removing anything. You have to depressurize the coolant system by loosening the cap. This will allow you to flatten the hose enough to slide the filter by. I usually do take the booster hose (the hard plastic line) loose to give more room. The black rubber o-rings go on the bolt that holds the filter on for seals.

Do I just loosen the bolt on top, then unscrew the filter or do I undo the bolt and pull it out all the way? When you put the two little rubber O rings on that bolt, is it obvious where they go, do they go one on top of each other or does the bolt have notches in it. The space that the filter goes in looks very tight, I wanted to fill up the filter with RedLine Diesel Catalyst, when I install it. I heard that this is a good flushing method. What are your thoughts??

The two o-rings, as Benzmac said are for the center bolt that holds the filter to the housing. There are notches on the bolt where the o-rings go. I also undo the booster line that clips onto the housing to make more room to remove the cannister. Just don't overtighten the bolt or else you'll have leaks. 1/4 turn past tight is satisfactory. Yes, you can fill the filter with Red Line Diesel Catalyst. You'll use the entire bottle to fill the filter up. When you go to crank the car it will crank and start then die, just keep cranking and giving it gas and when it catches keep on the gas and it will smooth out after a few seconds. Good luck!
