Current 2009 Selling Prices Here to Stay?

I am curious to know what others think & know (although who really knows...), , ,

(Private Party used) Cars are not selling, but I am really surprised to see so many Mercedes simply not selling - even when people are willing to drop & compromise on selling price - still not selling...
- ARE THESE EARLIER MODEL MBZs (80s - mid 90s, especially) PERMANENTLY REDUCED IN VALUE?

- ARE BUYERS SIMPLY NOT WILLING TO PAY FOR THE VALUE IN THESE CARS (Maint. and Work done to them at large expenses) ANYMORE?

- WILL THE MARKET (*sales value/selling prices) EVER REALLY BE AS STRONG AS IT WAS +1 YEAR AGO (for legacy model MERCEDES)?

I have been to a few regional MBZ dealerships recently - they ARE selling new & pre owned Mercedes. I have had two GMs tell me that they are sometimes "ashamed" to admit that things are still pretty good for them (but selling at what cost/rebates...?).
But what about our cars / you know - the really good legacy models, the ones people are not financing anymore... what can we expect in the future?

Any cogetation on this?

Cool

stopped by a local (i.e. rural) GM dealer this morning, to look at pickups. They had an '06 S430, a real beauty, 52K miles, one owner who paid $58K plus trade for it new. They are trying to sell it for the owner who is a friend. $23K will take it home. I fell in love.

I paid $25,000 for my '86 300E......in 1989. Now at 220K miles, it's my daily driver and although I've never regretted anything I've spent to keep it up, ( my dossier of records is very thick) it has occasionally tested my resolve to be able to say, at some point in time, that I have the nicest 25 YO 300E in town. Uncle Sam says it's worth $4,500 against a SmartFor2 but this 300E will not be going to the crusher. No way!

1990 300CE 140,000 miles, bought in 2006 for $2000. Still runs and looks great

1986 300E 150,000 miles, bought in 2002 for $2000. Sold in 2005 for $3200. Ran good, but needed to spend $300 to get it there. Was in good condition when sold.

1985 300D 124,000 miles, bought in 1987 for $5000. Sold in 1993 for $5000. Was one of the best cars, but too small for my mom.

1984 500SEC 192,000 miles, bought in 1991 for $4000. Still have it, runs good with new tranny.

1984 300SD 184,000 miles, bought in 1986 for $7000. Still have it, and drive it daily. One of the best cars we have ever owned

2004 S500 28,000 miles, bought in late 2003 for $78,000. Still going, used every day by my mother in her RE business.

For all the cars we have had, I would not trade my Mercedes for a GM, Ford or Chrysler no matter how cheap they get.

1987 300E Unknown Mileage $1400 --- Custom faded paint and $600 in prolonged maintenance. It lasted as a high school daily driver for 1.5 years before first getting backed into then, getting sandwiched between a Camry and a Mustang. Conveniently, each side of the car was hit separately, shattering both euros x.x

June, 2009
1992 300E 88,600~ $6,900 --- In addition to being pampered cosmetically and mechanically, it came with records from 1991-Present and various OEM out of the box parts including a center console, Rim(in addition to Michelin rimmed spare). Need to clean the ICV and 'revert' the A/C to its original state to be mechanically perfect.

Was it a deal? Not a steal but, I'm very happy with it. For a car that will last me into 200k even if i DIDN'T maintain it. That and I kinda, sorta, sometimes, on occasion enjoy driving it.

Happy Motoring

1987 300 D Turbo $3050, drove 2.5 hours home. Swapped out vacuum lines, and a handful of components. Very much worth it. 28mpg on trip with ac cruising at no less than 70 mph on a 400 mile trip between Illinois and Tennessee

95 E420 147,000 miles w/receipts for every service performed since new (I'm third owner) $3200. Hit a deer with my 91 300D and State Farm totaled it. I paid $2700 for the 300D in 2007 and even with 323,000 miles, they gave me $4900!! I thought I would miss my 300D but after driving the E420.....wow LOVE it.

Had you known what State Farm thought it was worth, you could have totaled it sooner!

Haha yeah no doubt, especially since it needed a new tranny, exhaust work, suspension was shot, etc... Finding the 95 sure helped ease the pain

I just bought my 1987 300D for $500.00. It looks just like Elk's 87. It needs work but I like this car
