Upon a close read the book actually states if you get a pagoda SL with the two pipe mechanical injection that it came from a sedan.
It states that the six pipe is correct for the SL of the same era.
It does not say that they did not also (probably later) that they put six pipe pumps in sedans so it appears there is room for us both to be right on this at least according to the book.

I saw a W114 (or 15, not sure) sedan yesterday at a car show with the six outlet pump. There is also a system that looks like what I would call a "throttle body" type fuel injection, that does not have an injection pump. Remember, Mercedes-Benz was the first with any kind of fuel injection in production autos, so you can imagine the many different ways they tried it through the years. In this area, they were way ahead of everyone else. Four wheel disc brakes is another one.
