yes one of those seemed to have been 'lodged' in the line to my EGR.. about 5 years ago. i was at rye playland and lost miserably at the machine gun game..lol .. there were hundreds of bb's lying all around ... now what was a w123 owner to do ??!!

i still would like to get rid of the ugly beast on the engine though .. any kits still available?

heres a easy question.
does my 1980 sd have egr?? I don't think it does, because in my service manual it states:
egr is intoduced in 1980 for califorina models, and 1981 for federal models.
how can i tell if it does??

Look at this photo:

The EGR valve is right in the front of the photo, between the air cleaner and the valve cover. Open the hood and take a look. You can't miss it.

If you still can't find it, then you need to become a little better acquainted with your engine before you mess it up.

But what the heck, hope this helps...

I can't quite claim to have experienced an improvement in fuel efficiency yet, but after two tank refills there has been an improvement since I killed that SOB. I can't make any claims quite yet, I have to wait to ensure this is a permanent change.

Hey, where can I buy a vacuum plug for that modulator on top of the valve cover? I'd like to plug the holes from which the vacuum line comes out. Right now I have plugged them in an unrefined manner. I went to autozone and none of all the stuff they had could fit well.

Why do you want to plug the holes? You have removed the three lines and the plug from the black box, correct?

Here is mine, currently:

No man, your hood is well cleaned up for sure, I remember the other post you started on that. I just don't know how to perform that "complete" cleanup. I still have two lines from the black box running to what seems like the modulator on the injection pump. Looks like in yours you completely did away with the line running sort of to the "side" on the injection pump and you just have one thick line on the "top." This vaccum stuff scares me because I don't even have a MityVac yet to diagnose stuff in case leaks develop. What should I know that I don't to get to the state of your hood?

No sweat.

Each of those two lines from the black box runs to a "T", correct?

Take out each of those two lines and throw them away.

You now have (2) "T's" with an open hole on one side.

Remove one of the "T's" completely and throw it away.

Now, you have two hard plastic lines that had gone into each side of the "T".

Conncect the two hard plastic lines with a short section of vacuum hose.

Remove second "T", throw it away, and repeat the connection with the short piece of vacuum hose.

You are done.
