85 300sd downshift
Hello,
i posted a week ago about a problem i was having with my transmission shifting. i located the problem in the repair manual and it turns out someone had the vac. lines on top of the valve cover criss crossed. anyway i have fixed the problem and now it shifts much better but sometimes it has trouble finding the right gear. the downshifts seem jerky when they do occur, the 1-2 is a neck breaker, and some times it will just not find 4th if i don't let off the throttle a little. any thoughts?... also what is the normal oil consumption of these vehicles? |

You probably have low vacuum to the modulator on the transmission.
Obtain a vacuum gauge and T it into the line to the transmission (comes down from the plastic valve on the back of the IP). See what the vacuum is at idle...........then see what it is when you drive it with varying pedal positions. See what the vacuum is at maximum pedal position. Report back and we'll see what data you get. |

But as to the oil consumption, the oil pressure has dropped from 3 to 2 in the past week and it looks as if i am a quart to 2 quarts low. I will perform a filter and oil change for this as well. I will monitor the level and report back on it to find out if it is normal. I get the feeling my pcv and intake mods could be the culprit as it is set up to vent to atmoshere however the valve cover appears to be leaky. Looks like I am gonna have a busy Sunday. |

However, at engine speeds above 1500 rpm, the gauge should always be pegged on 3.0. If not, something is seriously amiss. Please advise. |
