Angry Damaged by others.......who pays??

So i the insurance people finally came over today. they checked out my damage and cut a check for 2K. now what had happened was my car was sittin in my friends driveway, and she backed out into it. causeing the driverside passenger door on my 240D to kind of cave in. The door still functions, IE power lock and the window. the trim on the top is twisted. the paint cracked just a little.

I opend the door up today and i cannot find any dents on the inside of the door i guess the door may have an outer shell or somthing??!?!

any who my delema is that should i pay to have it fixed, which each shop i took it to quoted around 2K ne ways. or sould i just drive it like it is, and maybe pick up anther W123. maybe 300 turbo or 300SD or 300CD?? or should i invest the money an have the door fixed? the paint and everything still looks good, it just kinda dented in, since i cant find the dents on the inside, i assume its not that bad..

any comments???

If you can afford the seperation anxiety I would go for a newer car. 240 is to slow for me.

Get a used door.

And tell us what insurance company cuts a $2000 check for a 240D and doesn't total it!

If it were mine and I like the car and want to keep it, I would find a "new" used door. There plenty of them out there. I recently priced them and they range from $175 to $300 + shpg.

And yeah, am curious too about the insurance question Sixto asked.

I've had a similar situation. I had a 1983 240D three years ago, and only had it 3 days when an idiot from a local tire company made an illegal u-turn in front of me and I hit him (undoubtedly his fault, and he received a ticket for illegal U-turn and failure to maintain safe outlook). I got my quotes together to repair (well over $2,000 as it screwed up the hood, the grille, and bent the front bumper up a little). The insurance company dragged their feet real bad - I had a lawyer who is the brother of a good friend of mine make a nasty little call. They called and asked me what I thought was fair - I told them to pay me the $1,500 I had just paid for the car and let me keep the car. Check arrived to my house within 2 days! I bought a hood already the right color for $200 and a headlight door for $75 on eBay and drove it for a year.

If the accident had been my fault and I was dealing with my insurance company, they would have probably not accepted the deal. You have the upper hand when you are dealing with somebody else's company when they are at fault, and will write you a check for $2K in a heartbeat to be done with the situation. I could have asked for more and probably gotten it, but I didn't want them to total the car and take it.

just go to any junkyard and ask them to find you a door. what color is your car anyway. it does not have to be in Illinois. Anything can be shipped from anywhere.

tell me year, model, what color and which door.

Idomnt know what you have out there in the way of yards, I frequent the local pick-n-pull for my projects, and see lots of doors out there in great shape, usually grab one loaded for 100-$150, or if you can wait a bit since it still works fine, they have 1/2 off weekend sales every 6 months or so. That was where I got all the little stuff I needed to rebuild the 240 and do the 617 conversion. Sad part was I saw a lot of well maintained looking rides out there, only landed there from broken timing chains or the like, man if only I'da known, they'd have gotten a lot more from me for the cars then the yard paid them I'm sure, lol.

No the 74 is a 114 or 115 body style. This is a 123 chassis body style. Except for the coupe model that has no back door so it does not apply anyways. Alll of the 77-85 240s and 300s even including the gas versions rear passenger doors should be the same.
