Sounds to me like it idles just fine.

No problem at all.

Replacing the motor mounts will stop the "Milkshake Mambo." Same thing happened in my 420 SEL before replacing the motor mounts.

I hated that wire baler. The twine bailer was much better, though those knotters kept breaking.

I surprised with the ignorance shown here concerning how an independent suspension system works. Here’s a well crafted tutorial on the subject.

My wife doesn't have the correct measurements to have the same issue. Coda has a similar shake right now due to the fuel leak rotting the driver's side motor mount. My wife did like placing her elbow in her "V" while driving (holding the steering wheel) though.......

Gives a whole new definition to "improved vibration damper", huh?

My car is as smooth as can be.... then after about 30 min of driving the boob shaker starts. Could this be motor mounts as well. Seems like if the motor mounts were the problem then it would shake consistantly and not just after driving for a while.

if you have an injector seeping fuel, that may be your problem. I changed a leaky injector and the roughness stopped. Bill.

Talking

Thanks, problem solved. I adjusted the rack dampener to no avail and while I was under the hood with the motor running I noticed foam type bubbles in my prefilter (sucking air). Swaped the flexible fuel line leading to the prefilter and problem solved. Thanks for the input. Enjoyed this thread.

Well, I was going to post on the old thread I had going but since this one is active...

I had severe vibration at idle on the '83 300SD only at 81 degrees indicated or above. 1 degree cooler and the engine was very smooth. Rack limiter was good and did not fix the problem. Engine mounts and shocks are good as are the transmission mounts. With the help of one member (sorry, I forgot the gentleman's handle) I tracked the main problem down to a tiny air leak in the fuel supply. Merely tightening the clamps helped a lot - my cousin's were no longer bouncing around but there was a little jiggling (she is quite, ah, gifted in that regards.)

I had run Diesel Purge in the fuel tank but finally did the proper separate bottle method. After reassemble the last trace of roughness went away. Also acceleration seems smoother. However whether this was due to the purge or just removing and reattaching the lines eliminated a missed air leak I have no way of telling.

Hmmm. I wonder whether the improvements noted by some after a purge wasn't because of any improvement in the injectors but due to just fixing air leaks. This could possibly account for the mixed results reported.
