If I decide to blow some smoke in a tailgater's face with the E300, I usually end up far enough ahead of the idiot that he no longer qualifies as a tailgater..

Back in college I had a '76 Ford F-250 Hi-Boy that I used to haul around my landscape trailer and boat so I had a real heavy duty receiver hitch welded up with some additional tow rings and stuff. With the hitch in the receiver, it stuck out a good foot and a half away from the bumper (I've still got the shin marks to show for it ).

Coming home one weekend I had some moron in an El Camino come flying up on me and he just sat there waiting for me to pull over into the non-existent slow or breakdown lane. I came upon a stop light that I normally would have cruised through in the yellow light stage, but decided to be extra safe so I braked a little harder than usual. Mr. El Camino's radiator met my trailer hitch ball with extreme prejudice. Mr. El Camino then met a Coventry officer and got ticketed. I just smiled and played nice. I never provoked the guy or anything so he had no real reason to be mad at me except for the fact that 5mph over the speed limit wasn't enough for him.

I was kind of bummed out though because there really wasn't a scratch on my truck. I couldn't even get a hitch ball out of the incident since it was unscathed. I did get the satisfaction of ruining the guys day, though.

My old '74 240D would belch out a massive cloud of black smoke when I did the neutral/rev trick so I would do the exact same thing to tailgaters. There was no shortage of tailgaters in that car since it did 0-60 in 30 seconds. The best was doing it at night and watching their headlights dim in the cloud.

I do a lot of bicycling, some drivers think bikes shouldn't be on the road and will actually go out of their way to act inconvenienced even when there's no oncoming traffic, long story.

Anyway, one friend of mine would flip drivers off, yell back at them, etc. when they honk and cut us off, you can imagine how well that worked in the bicycle-vs-4,000lb oldsmobuick with joe-sixpack driving.

I had my method, smile and wave. Really steamed the honking driver as they didn't know how to react, kind of threw them into a mode where they had to actually think: "do I know him? does he work with me, go to my church/school/gym?". Worked great and left them worrying that they'd see me again soon and be embarrassed.

For driving I stay out of people's way, use the passing lane for passing etc., and the few times I'm actually in the way I just move on. People do stupid things for their ego, run people off of the roads, pass you and slam on the brakes, ... not worth it anymore.

I do it too...

I have been known to do the rev in neutral trick. Works best in city traffic when the car gets all carboned up. I have thought about rigging up something to put used oil into the exhaust but since I want it to go after the turbo, I always wondered if it would give off the correct smoke! I remember back in the bad old '80's when my friend and I used to carry caltrops (those sharpened jacks) We always talked about throwing them out the window at cars that were tailgating, but we never had the nerve.

Glad to see I am not the only crazy diesel driver out there!

My friend was telling me the other day about how bike conditions are on I-4. In FL motorcycles can go down the middle of traffic if it is stopped. So he does it at a speed of like 30 to be safe on his crotch rocket. But this jerk in an H2 thinks different. He swerves out to hit him and misses my friend. So my buddy goes back around and goes slowly up the right side of the H2 and kicks every body panel. He wears some heavy duty steel tow shoes . The H2 got what it deserved.

Same thing happened to my unlce years ago in Cali. Going down the middle of traffic but some jerk thinks that he should wait like the rest of them. So.. he opens my door while my unlce is zipping through. .my uncle doesnt see it in time and makes sweet contact with the door flipping him off his bike. his friends that were riding with him said he had gotten up and proceeded to beat the living crap out of the guy that opened his door.

It is amazing how pissed off some people get when you just smile and wave. That's the method I've adopted over the years when someone disagrees with my driving decisions. I think the fact is that they don't get the desired results of showing the smile-and-waver up.

I found by accident, people wont tailgait if you have a rope or large rag tied under the back of the car so it whips around in the wind & drags on the ground.
The rag or rope distracts them, looks dangerous & un-natural and they just wont follow close. (Of course a cop may not like it either.)

Just close the handle of a dog leash w/collar attached in your trunk and drag it around.

hey all you bike riders... you really do have to follow the same rules as any motor vehicle on the road. passing inbetween cars is illegal. stopping you with a door is also illegal... who is right?

Well, while lane splitting is illegal in all states except CA it is non-harmful; no body no foul. I am pretty sure if someone is stupid enough to open their door and attempt to actually harm someone they are greater danger to society.

The fact that these knuckle heads do not understand that they are actually putting people in mortal danger by their actions is astounding.

That is BULL! In some states it's legal to split lanes, but even if it's not, that somehow gives another driver the authority to try to KILL the biker? PLEASE tell me that was not the intent of your post.

:wtf:

Even if the motorcyclist IS breaking the law, so what?

Besides, splitting the lane is the safest place for a cyclist to be, absent any idiot vigilante.
