Fusebox is on the firewall to the left of the brake booster. It has a rectangular plastic cover with two thumbscrews holding it on.

Have you traced out the voltage? Have you checked for voltage at the glow plug relay?

Lets try this and I hope some other member will correct me if I am wrong.
![]() This is the junction box over by the battery. Look for the plastic tube with 2 wires comming out of it. The Fat white one (on the left) I believes goes down to the starter and is bolted together with the big red positive battery cable on the starter solenoid. The white wire on the far right hand side goes down to the small terminal on the starter solenoid (the purple wire under it I believe goes to the ignition switch). Hook that 1 jumper cable from the negative battery terminal to the block of the engine or something attached to the engine block. Make sure the parking brake is on and transmission in park. If parking brake not working block the wheels. Take one end of a wire and hold it on the positive battery terminal and then touch it to the small white wire all the way to the right on the junction box. When you do this the starter should start to crank the engine. Also the termnal on the far right and the middle terminal are connected togeather. If you check them with your volt meter you should get + battery voltage there.

This is a representation of your fuse box with the white areas being the fuses. Numbers 1,3,7,9,11,13 are part of the light system (not number 5). With no key in the ignition take that 1 jumper cable that is on the - negative terminal of the battery and ground it to the body of the car. Attach a wire to the positive battery terminal long enough for the other end touch the fuse terminals. Touch both terminals on each fuse (each fuse has 2 connections touch both) on the 1,3,7,9,11,13 fuses. As you touch them parts of your lighting system should come on. If the wire gets hot or has a heavy spark when you touch it you have a short circuit.
If no lights come on than you have a wiring problem (or the lights burned out) (remember the lights also need to be grounded) from the fuse box to the front of the car and the light switch is probably OK. If they all worked you may have a problem with the light switch or the light switch is not getting electricity. ![]() 13= Low beam left 11= low beam right, fog light 9= High beam left, high beam indicator 7= High Beam 3 and 5 I believe are the parking lights 1= parking, tail lignt rigt, licese plate, instrument, vent controls and othners See the papper chart in the lid of your fuse box.

If the engine is cranking but not trying to start the sutoff may not be getting vacuum and cutting off the fuel.

Fixed it today. Hired a guy to come out and check it out (dad had to have parts truck back tuesday morn), took him 45 min to find the prob, 15 to fix it, i had put both of the small wires on the same post on the starter. He did some rigging so now it starts. I'll take a pic and show what he did, he was talking in a very "good ol' boy" terms so i didnt fully understand what he was saying, he made a fuseable link to the batery down to the starter with one of small wires, but it sounds kind of what like what diesel911 was talking about with one of the small wires going to the big terminal and back up to the junction box. Should i rerout it, fromt the big post on the starter to the junction box instead of from the battery.
Thanks to everyone that gave me advice, I learned a whole whole lot and now feel pretty damn confident that I can fix anything. ![]() So once again thanks for all the wonderful help, I owe yall a beer (diesell 911 i owe you a keg) ![]() |

You showed a valuable quality of character: perseverance!!!
Because you pushed yourself you learned a lot. As far as “I am R*E*T*A*R*D*E*D” everyone spends some time there. I can remember my old truck not starting after I changed the points and plugs in it. It took me 2 hours and considerable cursing and beating on the fender before I found that I had forgotten to tighten the screw that held the points in position after being adjusted. If you have an interest in mechanics. You might consider taking some night classes in a trade school or even some Jr. colleges have mechanic classes.
