I'm having somewhat similar issues with my '95 - unfortunately - I found my wiring to be original and horribly falling apart - I've now rebuilt 3 harnesses and I think I've gotten all the bad wiring replaced. I sent my injectors to Bryan who thinks they are originals at 265k and they are in serious need of new nozzles - so - you might consider having your injectors checked as well. I'm replacing the DV seals, rebuilding the fuel pump and replacing the lines "while I'm in there" my intake manifold did not appear sooty so - I'm wondering if previous owner already plugged the EGR - or if it just doesn't work any more.
Hopefully sometime around Mid January I'll have all the parts in hand so I can finally put this thing back together again and see how it runs. Hopefully I'll have a glowing report!

I'd guess it's the resonance flaps. My buddy had a '97 and it had a competetant amount of power but that power really needs the RPMs to deliver. It shifted about 500 RPM higher than the turbo cars.

If the flaps are stuck in the low RPM setting, I'm sure it would feel breathless at higher speeds.

I will try to clean this sometime this week, is there a specific thread I can look at, which illustrates the process? I tried searching but found a bunch of non-relevant threads.

wez... Like in the Road Warrior?

Anyway, I don't think this car can be chipped since it still has the mechanical injection pump - at least most of it's mechanical with a few electronic bits. It's the '96's and up that have a more "electrified" pump.

Even though they don't say it, I'm sure that chip is for the 96/97 cars. I have been known to be wrong though...

I did the same I blocked off the exhaust side and put a k&n on the intake side. The flapper is removed car has been this way for a while. I would say better mpg and better highway response when you get on it. Thanks for checking on the chip I am actually going to turbo the car after next year. I am getting a 603 injector pump and going to put a inter cooler in the set up.

That's interesting... I wonder what parameters the chip actually changes.

Hey player... don't want to burst your bubble, but I am 99.9% sure that you have the 606.910 engine. The '96-'97 E300's have the 606.912...So Oli is correct in stating that the chip will work on any 606.912. The 606.912 has a computer whcih controls the amount of fuel going to the IP. Your '95 as Kartek stated is completely mechanical and does not have the computer telling how much fuel to feed to the IP....

The EGR mod is nice and the elephant hose like I installed on mine is that much nicer, clean intake tract... Although the non turbo OM606's are slow, they sure are smooth if everything is up to snuff. Enjoy the new toy. I'd love to pick one up if I had more room at my house.

Even on the 96+ 606, the only thing electronic about the fuel injection pump is the rack modulator.

There is probably a limit applied to the rack position, depending on RPM (and boost on a turbo) which can be reprogrammed to give you a bit more fuel. Other than that, I don't see what could be done.

I just picked up a 1995 E300 with ~200k miles. I have a couple questions about this vehicle. Upon purchase of this vehicle I have done some common maintenance, i.e. changing both fuel filters, air filter, cleaning EGR Valve, running diesel purge, checking for fuel leaks from plastic lines, cleaning Intake Manfold, coolant flush, transmission fluid/filter change, cabin filter replacement, lubricating linkages etc.

1. I notice that when going up hill the car runs out of steam, I can probably go 70mph max when pinning the accelerator to the floor (transmission does not kick down, although it does kick down at lower speeds) On some inclines I slowly lose speed while climbing. On my 1999 it always pulls and I have never lost speed when climbing hills. Is this common? Is my kick down switch bad? Transmission cable need adjusting?

4. On flat ground the fastest speed I can muster is 90mph (attempted this on an old runway) I thought these cars were quicker?

Ok so I solved my problems. It seems that my accelerator pedal was loose and detached from the metal clip that holds it so it sits flush. After I clipped it back in the car is totally different. The E300 pulls in every gear hard and I can charge up hills at 80-85 mph in 4th gear. If I manually downshift to 3rd it will hit 100mph going up hill, WOW what a difference!

It seems the kickdown doesnt work north of 4k RPM and you must manually shift to third. On flat ground I can easily hit 105+ ( I took it up to this speed and did not go any faster but the car was still pulling hard).

Every day that I drive this car I love it more and more. Its plenty quick, frugal, and feels solid. I love this car.... Up next changing of the head unit and an AMG duck tail spoiler!

Great to hear that your problems were a simple fix - sometimes the simple things are the hardest to find if you don't know what to look for. I've been surprised at how many cars trucks and boats I've looked at that do not have full throttle travel for one reason or another.
My car is still down - I've been sick lately and I'm still waiting on the new nozzles for my injectors from Bryan - last I heard he was going to try to test my old ones with some diesel purge to see if it really did anything or not.

I've got all my wiring harnesses rebuilt - just need to get them installed.

I'm still fighting with one siezed glow plug - the entire threaded portion of the plug is unthreaded and loose - but I can't pull it out.
