I know I have seen 1" gages maybe from JC Whitney or Summit, I cant remember which. Just an idea...
I do not think I would be able to read a 1" gauge.
The width of the Wood Strip area id 1 1/2 inches.

It is a project that I am not planning to do soon. I was just thinking out loud in hopes of getting some other ideas.

There might be room for something like the pic in the thumbnail that I randomly picked from the internet as there as there is room that with the 1 1/2 inches area of the where the wood srip goes there is room below for the gauge pod to hang.

for the record, I'm with Jimmy and 79Mercy...but if you end up cutting into the dash, and are thinking of using a hole saw for this purpose, make sure the pilot bit is extra long. I added oil pressure and manifold temp to my old air cooled VW bus and learned this the hard way.

or better yet, use a block of wood for a template, so it can't deviate from your intended placement.

seems like japonica, rather than basmati is the better rice Jimmy.

Me too, but Matthew is right about the rice. Basmati is Indian rice.

Yes, it's a bit ricey, but as I said, I don't follow fads one way or the other. I just don't care. The fad will pass, and I'll still want my gauges.

But I won't put on the buzzy muffler because it annoys me. I don't need a subwoofer because my old ears can't tell the difference any more and I don't need to feel the bass, and neon under the car really doesn't light up the road where I need it lit.

But sometimes fools do come up with practical solutions. I'll feel free to adopt those, and ignore the rest.

I call the buzzy mufflers a "fart can" and also find them very annoying.
I would like to have a small subwoofer - the stock speakers don't put out much bass.
Neon under the car is a dumb idea IMO, but I have seen halogen fog lights mounted underneath Jeeps - for being better able to see the rocks and obstacles when wheeling at night!

so whats wrong with a pillar gauges? they dont look bad and it keeps the dash and everything else looking stock, and in my opinion they are really the easiest to see. id just like to know what ones actually might fit even with some heat gunning or trimming maybe but id really prefer my gauges on the a pillar.

I saw this picture on a CL ad for a 300SD. I was thinking it would look better with matching wood...but where could souch material be found?

Matching gauges would look much better. I want to mout a boost gauge and a volt gauge.

I agree. It's a great place for gauges. Right in front of your face, yet not blocking any visibility that you would have otherwise had.

I took the cover off of my ashtray and drilled holes in it for my Pyro and boost gauge. It fits right back in great and looks like it belongs. Ill try to post some pics tomorrow.

Exactly, and when I'm driving hard, down at the console is the last place I want to be looking...
