Blower fuze is fine, so looks like a CC replacement to fix.

I have no idea how hard the control unit is to replace or how expensive it is, guess I will look it up as far a part cost goes. I'm not sure I will be able to replace it mysellf, as the arthritis has just about stopped all that kind of work.

I wanted to get through the winter this year with the car before getting a van of some type to haul kids and their junk, but not w/o a heater. I will try to do some new pictures to show what it looks like now, her last two new cars she did the same way. The 02 Jetta I had to have detailed before I could take it to a dealer to see about trading.

As for fuze I know the fuzes in the fuze box are ok, but I did find a loose wire on the drier/receiver but didn't know where the big blower fuze was located. I remember seeing the box Chadahar spoke about and will check that latter after we get the boys off to school and daycare and let everyone know the results.

This has been a pain typing because of holding a 1.5 year old little boy in my lap while he watches cartoons. But he really loves his old grampa and just has to snuggle with me every morning after he gets up, he looks for me even before getting his mornning bottle.
my little sister won't be getting her drivers license until March of 2010, and I detail cars for a living.... I'm not afraid of some dirt... just keep us in the loop!

You be in the right business then, I guess you have seen a lot worse then the wife's car as I have when I was workigng in the car business. But it just always makes me mad that people treat things like that, my wife didn't use to be that way. I can remember when she kept a small trash bag in the car and would vacuum the car at least when it needed, not anymore. Maybe I am being too critical, but it is just the way I feel.

My wife is worth it, I'd rather clean her car for her than wake up without her, ...
I wish it were different, but it's her car.

Hang in there.

Sounds more like you have a problem with your wife and not the car. Maybe you need to rethink about what you need to get rid of.

It does sound as if you've got your hands full OldNavy. Remember, it's just a car.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Do some searching, here and on the tech forum. There are three wires coming up from the blower & speed controller, I believe that one is power, one is ground, and the third is a variable voltage for variable speed. Checking voltage there will tell you if it's the CC module (no speed signal), the fuse/wiring (fuses can sometimes be cracked and look normal)(no +12v), the ground, or the blower/speed control (all normal but no fan operation). They are easily accessible under the hood near the blower housing.

my fuse was cracked, and didn't appear to be...
and was even making random contacts for EXTENDED periods of time...

anywho, I/we'd be interested in the vehicle if it comes down to it... she's a tad bit more than an hour north of Saint Louis...

my mom wants her to be in something safe, and at least semi economical...
she's even thinking of donating the '06 Mercury Montego Premier to the "little sister needs a car" cause...

My wife keeps both mine and her car super clean and cares a lot about her car. Guess I have nothing to complain about!

Well the car's battery is dead after 4 years of service. it came off another car I had. Wife tells me she had noticed it cranking kind of funny for about a month.

It is so dead that after being on the trickle charger for almost 24 hours it is still not even reched th 80% point, just soild red light. It is a Optima Red Top battery that I would put on the trickle charger about once a month, and some times more often, but I haven't had it on the charger since mid July. I have always had the wife drive out of town for fuel, but not the last month as it was better fuel and cheaper in town. I guess I should have kept up the battery better and not had her filling in town.

My idea was have her dri=ving it out of town 20 miles one way to fuel up to get the car properly warmed up and charged up and clean out the system by a highway drive.

I also found a Vacuum line pulled loose over by the airbox where they is a 3 way connector with one of the lines going to the tranny I believe.

Anyway I was wondering if this car will shut down things like A/C if the battery drops to point too low such as say 9V that a lot of the new cars do. Any idea?

There is a prioritization scheme for electrical consumers. One indication of low voltage is the SRS warning light since the SRS system has a continuous low voltage check. A strong alternator will mask a weak battery so you won't necessarily get the warning just because the battery is on its way out.

Damm Old Navy. If you lived closer Id be more than happy to help you diagnose that problem, especially since it could be something simple.

Like many other forum members have mentioned, check the large metal strip fuse under the hood. There maybe two (one for aux fans and one for blower). You should check continuity with a tester if they "look" to be ok, just to rule them out. If when you turn on the AC from the push button control unit, and the AC compressor kicks on, it sounds like the problem might be in the blower cage itself (not in the PBU-push button control unit). I have never seen a defective PBU not turn on the blower, just cut the AC. Knowing how healthy the blower motor was a week before could help you. Was it week? Did it squeel at all? Sometimes water gets in there and ruins the motor. Ive seen it happen all too often. But if the blower worked good before it died, that leads me to believe it could be the blower resister, which is right below the blower motor in the cage. It is somewhat of a PITA job to access it. But once your in there, everything is strait forward. It would be a shame to get rid of such a nice car over something that could be potential minor, even so, worst case scenario, put a new blower in for a few hundred and call it a day.

good luck!

Well I have the battery out and getting ready to get at the blower unit before it get much hotter. Humidity is 97% so the radio said, man I am hating this, why could this not happen in October or November when it's nice out.

I will also do the continunity test on the A/C fuze over on the driver side in front of the other fuze box and recheck the fuze in their also while at it.
