The attached pic is of my OM606 - but I'm assuming it is the same for you. The block heater should be located in one of the freeze plug holes on the passenger side of the engine. As you can see in the pic, mine is to the rear of the engine block drain - below the exhaust manifold. When I bought mine the cord was not installed, there was a screw-on plastic cap on the block heater threads. I just removed that and screwed on the cord (aftermarket cords are plug-ins I think), then route the cord and zip tie it out of the way.

I could have sworn I saw it to the front of the engine but that was a long time ago. I'll take it down to the Indy. they owe me...

"Jer" welcome? I don't know, I tried. Oh, and if you really care, here is a pic of the cord I bought. I got it off ebay - I think I paid like $8 for it, good deal. It's currently 26 degrees here tonight . . but these days I have a garage . . although, that reminds me, the car should be inside the garage for that to be useful - gotta go now.

Go to autozone and buy a set of rhino ramps. IMO they are safer then jackstands, easier to use, and perfect for a quick look under the car, doing an oil change, whatever.
That picture of the 606 looks just like what my memory tells me my 603 is like. If your engine has good compression and your battery is good, I would think you could get it to start at 26* with no glow plugs. It will take a LOT of cranking though. -J

ya,
pedal to the floor and crank till it starts. The key is not to stop cranking till it starts. There is a bit of pucker factor after the 30sec mark . Just ignore the smoke coming off the starter/wires

I was just being silly.
By far your best bet is to have him put a cord on there. Few didn't come with heaters from what I understand. But with working glow plugs I doubt if FL would ever get cold enough, long enough, to keep your 603 from starting. Do you get winter diesel down there?

X3 on the glow plugs. I have started mine at 6f with out having it plugged in(mostly because some dumba** ran over the extension cord with a snowblower) It might take a couple of glow cycles but it will fire.

Mine started at 28 yesterday, I turn the key to glow, put my seatbelt on and crank. So I'm glowing maybe 5 seconds after the light goes out, no issues starting at all.

AFAIK, all OM60x engines come with block heaters from the factory. The cord was free at the dealer during the first year of ownership but you had to ask for it.
