read every thread on peach parts and benzworld on cut springs. and took notes on significant findings from every thread.

The threads are very opinionated and have conflicting information. Trying to pull it all together from everyones mistakes and success and come to conclusions before cutting.

A lot of people have opinions without experience.

The ones with experience in lowering tend to leave the forum. maybe because the consensus is that the genius MB engineers made the car perfectly which implies that there is no room for improvement and the innovators are wasting their time or not as smart as the mb engineers. which is probably true, but for sure there are innovations which the mb engineers did not consider that for sure innovators want. For sure some innovators leave because they are made to feel uncomfortable And maybe some innovators leave because they mess their cars up and get disappointed or dont want to feel the heat from the oem is right majority.

whatever the reason the innovators leave, so the knowledge base is thin.

i am just trying to have the most success by being as prepared as possible. So i try to have the right donuts ready for my wheel guy and then someone mentions shims and frankly i thought it just was springs and donuts.

Quench in oil whatever you do. Good excuse for an oil change . "donuts" == shims I believe.

I can't advise, but will say, this depends upon design. Look at how the coil is in stalled. If there is a pig tail or some other design in the spring to keep it in place at one end or the other, cut the other end. Next look to see if the spring is 'indexed' or must maintain a relationship between the end of the coil top and bottom, this being the case, only full coils can be cut to maintain this relationship.

Having cut coils on many other non-benz vehicles, the above holds true in most cases. I need to replace dampers in the front of the W124 and am considering cutting coils to lower 'a bit'.

Good thread.
