Don't newer systems have different types of evaporators as well.
Yea - on a Honda it takes about 30 minutes to pull an evaporator.

I'm just glad you tackled this before I got to it! Seriously, I'm pulling for you, 'cause I really don't have any urge to put an r4 back on my rig!

Good job Jon.

What application is the electric fan originally sold for?

It's an Imperial 226216 16". It says on the box that it's 1500 CFM and it draws 16.5 amps. Sounds like a lot of amperage to me. Probably more than the old 12" that was in there.

I Got it at Advance and it was near the transmission coolers. It says for "Primary Cooling" $69.99. It looks like a good quality part, heavy motor. It's about as loud as the old one and it was pretty loud. "Assembled in USA" Could mean they put it in the box

Another crappy pic:

I modified the old bars that held the old fan in...

I may index the fan some more and use one of the 3 bolts for a bottom mount. It's nice to be putting things back together but it still seems like a lot of work left...

Jim, Any ideas on how to charge this thing with 134a and a CCOT? I'm installing a really big accumulator.

Greg, you are chopped liver. I am AWESOME! Admit it...

Twice the CFM.... 40 amps draw.....

""Spal 16 inch High Output "PULL" Fan. This fan has the highest output of any Spal 16 inch fan. This fan is not thin or compact, but it has been specially designed for maximum performance in a long life water resistant fan assembly. This fan has specially designed curved fan blades which increase airflow while reducing fan noise. Don't let the specs fool you, the specially designed blades on this fan allow it to pull a greater volume of air through a 3 row radiator than most other fans. Most fans are designed for optimum performance with single row radiators. This fan works when it counts!

This fan has 4 mounting tabs molded into the shroud, plus it has 4 mounting slots which can accept the optional, standard spal mounting brackets if desired. Mounting brackets are sold in 4 piece sets and can be chosen from the options list above if desired. Bracket kits are available at discounted price only when purchased with a Spal Fan. Caution! This fan draws 40 amps when it is pulling at it's maximum. This fan must be wired up using the FRH-HO-SW relay and harness or equivalent. The FRH-HO-SW comes with a Heavy duty relay, 195 degree temperature switch, 60 amp fuse, wiring connector for the fan and a complete fan motor to battery wiring harness. If you will be building your own harness and relay setup the fan motor pigtail can be ordered seperately. More information on ordering fans, brackets and fan controllers can be found on the Spal Fan Information Page. This page opens in a new window and can be closed when you are finished.

Fan Specifications Button Click on Fan Specifications button to view the technical specifications for this fan. Note: It has come to our attention that the airflow and current specs for this fan are inncorrect. This fan moves over 3000 CFM and draws 40 amps with free flow and 45 amps under full load. Fan Specs open in a new window and require "Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0.5" or later to view.""

Wow, 40 amps 3000 CFM. More than twice the price.

That one looks like it would be a good primary fan. I'm sticking with the clutch fan for now...

Get in an 80's Chevy truck that has the AC working well. Drive around in that sucker for an hour with the AC kicking... CCOT... It does work. Maybe not with my tiny 60's technology evaporator but I don't see why it wouldn't. Keep the evaporator flooded with a good supply of gas and it does it's thing. Switch the compressor off before it freezes.

My TXV was a pain to get out and they do go bad or you could get a bad new one An in line OT is simple to change.

I'm still not 100% committed but I'd like to try it out...

If you were pulling the evaporator from whatever CCOT system you got the accumulator from.... that would be one thing... but I suspect you are not...and I fear you do not know what all provisions are incorporated into the two systems enough to mix them up and it work well... or perhaps at all... simple little things which may be hidden... like a tube going in from the top.. but feeding from the bottom... can make all the difference in a physics dependent system like these...

I think this is the one I would consider using...it is push for in front of the radiator... I am not getting rid of my mechanical fan either...
