I was thinking of a long bed Dodge Dakota regular cab. But I want to put the engine in the front of the bed with a early 2000 Chrysler FWD transmission mounted in place of the differential. With the independent front suspension. I would mount the veg tank under the hood. I was also thinking of mounting the steering in the center with three seats one on each side.

Might take me a while I do not have the truck and the engine is still in the 1985 300d and still needs to be rebuilt so that it does not drip oil all over everything .

Now I have a direct injection 05 E320 cdi engine waiting to be "rebuilt" in a better way. What could I put that engine into. How about a mustang. Or a 1986 Mercedes 190? Maybe an 80's Camero?

Well, as the name suggests, I've shoehorned an OM617 into a 1990 Toyota pickup. Swap is mostly complete, truck starts, runs, moves around the driveway just fine. Has a bit of a knock due to over 1mm of intermediate shaft play - just received the intermediate shaft bushings today. Picked up the last of the parts to rebuild the vacuum pump yesterday. The intermediate shaft bushing and a rebuilt vacuum pump are on the agenda for the weekend. Then power steering lines and down the road I go.

Dang I'm excited.

I have to rebuild the auto trans, and figure out what I'm going to do about the trans linkage and drive shaft. Still need to find oil and trans coolers, but everything else should be fairly straight forward.

The 617 is almost the same size as the 6 cylinder coming out.

How's the swap coming along? Very interested as I want to do the exact same with my truck

I'm 95% through with swapping an OM617 into a 1990 Toyota pickup, hence my user name. Whole conversion has been 5 steps forward 4 steps back. Not too much more to go!

I'm in the midst of putting an OM617 into a Ford Courier, with a five speed manual behind it. I am also starting production on a kit to put a Ford small block bell transmission behind an OM617.

I have the pre-sale on now, hoping to ship around late June but it's looking like it might be into July. I haven't been promoting it too much as I have been insanely busy, including a new job with a two hour commute. I posted about it in the classifieds. I haven't posted on 4BT yet since I haven't ponied up the money for an advertiser badge yet.
I spent the better part of the last year trying to find a machine shop to make these, they're all "too busy" to handle some "little" $3-4k order, so I'm just tooling up and making them myself. Better QC that way anyways. I'll have serial number 0001 made up in a couple weeks, with the rest to follow pretty quickly after. I'll be running my setup on the test stand as the test mule isn't ready yet. I built it around the M5R2 five speed used in the F150, but the ZF used in the F250 has the same external dimensions. The M5R2 was much stronger than the M5R1 used in the Rangers, but did have some flaws. Mostly weak synchros, and leak-prone plugs on the shift rail passages. That, and the fact that people think manual transmissions all need 90wt gear oil instead of the ATF the factory filled them with-

I have been on putting the 617 turbo in my Studebaker now for three weeks straight so hopefully it will be installed soon before I can change my mind again and can sell off the four Studebaker engines I have accumulated....yikes!

There is so many awesome project swaps on here...is there anyone else that thinks that this kind of a subject could have its own category? That way all the swaps into non-mercedes vehicles could go under one heading. There is alot of people that have documented their swaps. It could go under the diesel spot....so that it is easily accesible when we need our fix to look at all the other vehicles that would be better with a Mercedes diesel in it.

You need to start your own macdoe's engine swap website

Haha, no...That would mean I would have to take some credit for doing a swap, myself which I have never done. There are far more credible guys on here that could probably have their own website for swaps...You just gave me an idea...how about I see if there is one already.d-oh
