But then it would be a shame to part out/junk (if it is indeed mostly rust-free otherwise...)

It's a MA car, I'm pretty sure there is some hefty rust hidden in her.
I started a shipping auction. I'll see what the lowest rate is. E-mailed the seller, too asking for more info and pics.

Just for giggles, I paid $375 two years ago just to go from Long Island to northern NY state on my 300d. For shipping a w126 interior, the power seats are the killer, less so if you remove the backs so they can be packed smaller. The dash will be a bit pricey due to box dimensions I would think. Then again uShip might be your friend on that as well.

There are other options if your time in MD is not too critical. Most of the interior could be disassembled enough to cut down on the weight. The seat covers, etc... can be removed and reinstalled if you have good working hardware on your current vehicle. Many storage facilities have boxes for sale that can accommodate pretty large items. Packing extremely well and then strapping to a pallet for LTL shipment would be less costly. Mark, in very bold letters "No Top Freight". If you marketed the remains of the car ahead of time, you might be able to cover your costs.
Of course this will take time, which we don't know how much time you have available. I understand about the effects of Texas sun and heat on plastics as I have had to, and still need to, replace plastics and fabrics as well. There are times when I think some sort of business could be developed by installing northern interiors into rust-free, southern exteriors.

if you ship the dash and seats, Greyhound is a low cost option, but you have to go the bus station to ship and pick up the items. as long as they are less than 9' long they will take them.

Just to put my oar in: Ive done something like this once, and heres how it plays out: Youre half way to where you want to be. You have a critical breakdown. Now what? Give up the vehicle and walk home? No, you get out your wallet and pay your way out of trouble. And trouble is never cheap.
Buy a nice new dashboard from the internet and have that shipped. and visit MA and have a lobster on the savings. |

I got a reply from the seller. He is unable to take pictures right now but get this, the car is in the same town my family is in. I'm thinking of sending someone over to take pics if I can get the address of where the car is. I could buy the car and have someone drive it and store it at my property until I am ready to have it shipped.

It's looking like it. My sister may know someone who has good knowledge of cars and I might be able to send him over so he can tell me if the car is drivable or not. That would at least open or close the driving option. Still a risk, though.

why not commission a fix to the sway bar if the numbers work otherwise?
