Replacing both flex discs

I've looked and looked for a good, comprehensive DIY article on how to do this (this'll be my first time doing major work under the car). I've seen snippets of stuff from lowering the transmission to dropping the entire driveshaft....I'm lost... Give a guy a hand here?

Re and RE Flex disks

If you are doing the disks only they will slip in and out. the spline can slide in some to allow the needed space. the direction the disk faces is important. Follow the original. NOTE keep the drive shaft in the same relationship to the other half to maintain the balance. Also keep the points at the disks in exactly the same position to each other and only do one disk at a time.
Now would be a good time to think about the center bearing and rubber support. What condition are they in. Check the rubber for cracks.
But that can be another job when necessary.

You will need a 17mm and a 15mm wrench or a allen (forget size). Spray with PB before even getting started. You will need to drop the rear trans mount. You will also need to jack up one rear tire in order to rotate the DS. It is VERY time consuming. If you go with a 15mm socket it needs to be thin walled. I would recommend a light dab of loctite even with the nylon nuts. Do not tighten the slip joint with the rear unloaded. Make sure you get the orientation right as well.

I assume you've checked the flex discs and determined they need changing? (cracked, or worse)
The reason I asked is that after reading here about the need to replace these I immediately ordered a pair (and the center bearing and support) for my 300TD, since it has about 230,000 miles and no indication in the paperwork that came with the car (or memory of the previous owner) that they have ever been replaced.
I just took a look underneath with my digital camera and lo and behold the disks look absolutely fine (no cracking or sign of worrysome wear at all!). So I've put off replacing these at this time. Maybe it was done at some time in the past that doesn't show up in the paperwork, who knows...
If you DO need to replace them, there's some great writeups on the forum if you just search a bit. Also some youtube videos I've come across.
Good luck and work safe!

On each end of the Drive Shaft there is a Pin that goes into the Bushing previously spoken of. The quality Bushings are like $55+ each so it pays not to damage them to begin with. The also need to be lubed with Grease.

To gain enoughs space to get the Pins out of the Bushing you need to loosen the 46mm Nut on the Driveshaft and slide the Yoke back till you have enough room to clear the Pins.
On mine the Flex Disx was stuck in the recess that the Steel Tubes on the Flex disc go into. It takes some bit of prying and force to get them out but you need to be careful not do damage thos Bushings.

I thought there was a more detailed DIY in the DIY section.

I have the d/s out now. The two halves have been marked but I did nothing in terms of marking the flanges. Am I in trouble?
