I figure the mount is designed a specific way to not transfer vibrations. For now I'll leave them as is since they're already in haha.

I started it up and immediately noticed there's a lot less vibration on the front end. Still some vibration on the hood, but not nearly as bad as what it used to be. Also no more clunking noise when turning off the engine.

It was so bad that last week, that one of the turn signals was shaken loose. Partially due to a worn out thumb nut.

Same idea, but what if you filled it with silicone? It would be softer, but would still provide some structure to prevent a catastrophic collapse failure. Thoughts?
If you fill the mounts with Shore A 75 urethane it will definitely create significant vibration. If you use a Shore A 30 urethane, it will be indistinguishable from unfilled.

I pioneered the use of urethane to fill mounts because I couldn't tolerate a collapsed mount because of restricted clearance. Took me quite a bit of troubleshooting to realize it was the hard urethane creating my vibration issues and not timing, injectors, rack damper, valves or other possibilities.

Silicone could work, but urethane does work.

Where does one get this urethane? Is it just caulking from the hardware store? Or is it something I need to get from some industrial part of town during work hours?

I get mine at Reynolds Advanced Materials (Reynolds Advanced Materials | Everything for Mold Making & Casting), but a Google search for polyurethane casting resin will turn up lots of sources. The critical parameter is Shore A 30.

The other suggestion I would make is to use Meyle mounts - this is because the flashing from the manufacturing process leaves a nice cavity to pour. If you use mounts with an "open end" you'll have to figure out a way to seal things up for the pour.

Besides getting reamed for a Mercedes mount, are there any other options I may have missed?

OR - if I had to choose one of these, which one should I pick? I don't mind having to change them every few years, Just trying to make it roadworthy
My sdl was vibrating....not shaking...but an in your bones vibration...so this time I ordered Phoenix from this site and received Lemforder which was ok cause I read they are the same just re-boxed with labels ground down.

Actually when I had the Karlyns installed I immediately noticed in the seat vibration and figured there was just more to attend to i.e. injectors, etc.

Yesterday I installed the Lemforders and vibration is gone. Smooth.

Moral to the story....there seems to be a difference in the materials used (rubber). Karlyn trans mount also tore some 5k after replacement. Replaced with Lemforder and its still holding strong.

Anyway check out the attached photo. Karlyn on the left. Lemforder on the right. Both driver and passenger sides were collapsed and not due to oil contamination.

When it comes to rubber bits some of these aftermarket goods appear to be simply false economy.

On the 79 300D I believe you would have to get the Mounts for the 617.952 as Lemforder does not seem to sell the mounts that are left and right specific.

Yes that is correct. That fact is substantiated in this forum in other threads.
Thanks,

On an 84 w123 the Lemforder Mounts are actually made by Phoenix (made in Turkey and still have the Phoenix Logo but the Mercedes Star is ground off) and are the same mounts as you get from the Dealer at a higher price.

I put Lemfoerder engine mounts and a Meyle tranny mount in my 300CD about a month ago. They are supposed to be the best but my engine moves around at idle more than it did with the old collapsed mounts. My jury is still out.

The Engine Mounts and that Rack Damper Bolt were designed to work when the Engine was operating within specs.

I had to rebuild the Injectors, adjust the valves, change the mounts as you did and then the Rack Damper Bolt was able to help a little.

Un-even compression, air infiltration into the fuel system, that fuel pressure relief/overflow valve, other fuel supply issues and some say the delivery valves inside of the Fuel Injection Pump. That is all I can think of right off.
