Diesel Purge results: This is amazing stuff!

I recently started a thread about my bro's '91 300D having fuel issues, but I can't find it! I decided to start a new one. It was suggested that I do a Diesel Purge, and I agreed that that is the only option left (I tried everything else). The car ran on my/our usual WVO/RUG blend for many thousands of miles, but would only run on pump Diesel lately. My bro told me that it would only run on D, but I did not believe him. After putting just 5 gallons of blend in the tank with the rest D, the car would not go over about 15 mph. I drained the tank and put in 5 gallons of fresh D, and it ran better, but still not great. I went to NAPA and bought 2 cans of Diesel Purge, and did the job today. I removed the filter and poured out it's contents, and filled it up with DP. I hooked the 2 hoses up in a way that the supply took DP from the can, and the return dumped back in the can. I drove around the block with tools, gloves, and another can of DP. When the car died, I exchanged the almost empty can with a full one. Driving around the block again and making speed runs (Italian Tune-Up style), I coasted in my driveway after the second can was used up. I have to say that I wish they sold this stuff at the pump! The car drove like a Slick-50 greased cheetah hopped up on Redbull chasing a bullet train! After putting the hoses back on and cleaning up, I looked in the bottom of the second can and saw this (I poured it in a clear jar so the fuel and such could be seen):

Evidently this is the gunk that was in the fuel system that got returned to the can. I am sure that is the offending substance that was causing the fuel problems with this car. I am not sure I am brave enough to go back to the blend, so I may let my bro do it if he is inclined (after all, it is his car).....Rich

Thank you. I really appreciate this info.

Can you give us a quick background about your filtration process?

Here it is - After many thousands of WVO (blended) miles, the car will only run on pump Diesel

I don't know how you found it, I tried every keyword I could think of. Thanks.
EDIT: I know why I could not find it, I was searching in DD and not Alternative Fuels. I am so used to posting in DD, that I forgot that I posted in AF......Rich

there is a web sight done up by a farmer that had too much trouble with WVO in his equipment and he changed over to VVO blended with 10% gasoline. He's using an industrial press to extract oil from his grains. uses the waste for feed stock. gonna try to find it

It all started for me when I read about DSE (Diesel Secret Energy) years ago. The DSE chemical was supposed to be the "Secret", but the WVO/RUG blending was commonplace. I realized that the whole DSE thing was just to sell the chemical which could have been nothing more than injector cleaner. The blending concept works without any added chemicals (other than the RUG component), so I did NOT need the DSE stuff for my car to work on blended fuel. I also learned a lot on a biodiesel forum (don't remember the name) about "Solvent Thinning" for fuel in a Diesel engine. My brother, several friends and I have been using this method for years in many different vehicles for MANY HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of miles with only a few very minor issues.....Rich

My brother and me have been using blends for years too. We started with the "Diesel Secret" but that didn't last long. We run 40% diesel, 5% RUG, and 55% WVO. (approximate). Works excellent in a 7.3 Ford too, over 200k miles of experience with that truck on the blend. I now have a single tank kit from Mercedes Source on my 350SDL but I run some D2 in it also. Diesel Purge once a year.

My bro runs it in his 3 'Benzs and his 7.3 PSD as well (1997 with 2 tanks=poor man's 2 tank system). I have ran it in all my 'Benzs and my Mitsubishi 2.3 Turbo. I sometimes get my gas from a boat shop and a lawnmower shop (stale or 2 stroke) for free. Works great!

Interesting the gunk on the jar... The Wvo is suppose to actually clean the system as well?
What Diesel purge did you use?
I have a can of Molly here that has been sitting on the shelf for years and I will treat the merc with it in the next few weeks.

Waste Vegetable Oil is just that, you have to do lotsa filtering and or centrifuging. Bio Diesel is an actual chemical conversion of vegetable oil into fatty acid esters and glycerin. The ester acts as a solvent and a lube, in the older vehicles it tends to clean all the paraffin and other crud off the walls of the fuel tank and fuel lines clogging the filters for a few tank fulls until all the crap is out. In the worst case sometimes the fuel tank has to be replaced.

Sounds like the rings have stuck.

have you tried water injection for a few miles? works a treat at cleaning and releasing rings.
