Help Stretch! W201 5 spd, 3-4 actuator, bright ideas needed
My 3-4 actuator arm for my W201 5spd loosened up for a second time, and I took the bolt out to put loktite on it. My mistake, as I can't get it back in in situ, the thread and hole through the actuator arm do not quite line up. This would surely be trivial with the transmission out and accessible, and some wiggle room but the tranny is presently installed.
I expect I'll be going through the tunnel with a hole saw or a 3/8 drill to gain suitable access unless someone has a bright idea.

I know these W201`s are tight trying to work on them.
Could you remove the trans X Mount and lower the rear of the trans enough to get to it? Charlie sent from my pos computer

Oh bugger - but it isn't the worst bit to fix on a 5 speed.
Here's the view from outside 3-4 is the middle one (for those who don't know) Here's some pictures of the inside The other side of the shifter mechanism is held in place by this bit => If I were you I wouldn't drill holes. I would remove the bolts from the motor mounts and the transmission / gearbox mount and undo the yoke on the propshaft and "just scoot" the back of the engine askew so I could get a bit more space for that pesky shift lever.

(I hope it is clear to all that if you remove bolts to motor mounts you need to support the engine in some way - underneath with a jack or from above with some sort of lifting mechanism!)

Pulled the drivers mats & carpets, drilled 3/8 thru the tunnel, had the cap screw started pretty quickly. I practiced on the parts car, so the first hole was close enough on the good car.

Fair enough - most W201s have more holes than Swiss Cheese anyway!
Have you got a rubber grommet cover over the hole to reduce road noise?

Ended up too messy for something like that. There is lots of foam and such on the interior side of the body as well, and fiber mat on the outside. I will squirt lots of RTV in, I think.
