W210 better than W211

Okay....it's a very short list. But...

1. W210 seats more comfortable...I miss the leather but know MB Tex will last longer.

2. W210 climate control settings more precise (yes, I can actually tell I prefer one degree increments over two degree increments).

3. The monowiper! Still don't understand why MB abandoned this.

That's really all I can think of....love my CDI.

Having driven a W210 E320 for more than 500 miles in the last week, I have to say I am rather surprised by the handling, cold air conditioning, transmission shift smoothness and ride quality in the car. Still, car's butt ugly in my opinion.

To me it is almost like the 87 E300 w210 reflects the earlier W123/126 cars moreso than the 05 E320 does. There are real slight hints of Nissan Maxima in the design of the interior of the 211 but that is probably more of a sign that MB started designing in comfort (versus the earlier philosophy with that "function" thing). Don't get me wrong, I like em both. If I go for comfort I take the 211. If I go for mileage I take the 98 E300.

You just need to get a fancier w211. Upmarket models have a four zone climate control with one degree increments for both sides front and back.

I always thought the mono wiper was cool, but didn't actually work that well. My theory is MB built it mostly to get cost savings because they could use the same wiper assembly for both left and right hand drive countries.

I do wish they kept the window switches on the center console. That was a nice MB design element. Moving them to the door like all other manufacturers was not an improvement.

There aren't many W210s left on the road over here any more due to their rust issues. They have rusted so fast I haven't had a chance to test drive one yet!

I agree, I've never thought the mono wiper was a that great, all the ones I've driven always seem to streak in one direction regardless of the blade on them. The W126 had the best wipers of any car I have ever driven. They should have stuck with that design.

My W201 mono wiper skips a bit right in front of the driver's main view area (and yes the blade is new and has been cleaned and I've de-greased the window several times). I'm not keen on mono wipers at the moment...

Ive worked on Mercedes for half of my life. The only, and I mean only reason to own a 211 is the 648 CDI engine.

W210 vs. W211

It's all subjective and it depends on the options.

My opinion is that the switch gear in the W210 has a more solid feel to it. The W211 switches are just computer keys.
My opinion, the W211 is quieter, more comfortable, more power, more economical, more useful features.
When my W211 gets to 350k, I will have a better idea of which car I think is better.

My W210: leather heated seats, HID headlights w/washers, rear sun screen, CD deck, bose sound
My W210: leather heated dynamic seats, Bi-Xenon active curve headlights w/washers, Panoramic sunroof, sat. nav., HK sound

With my W210 it is a race to see if I can wear it out before it rusts out.

Re monowiper, I find I need to use the exact OEM blade--no substitutes. Otherwise there's chatter and/or streaking.

OK thanks for the tip. I have a Bosch on mine at the moment...

I use Bosch as well...but, even though there may be several that technically fit, only one is labeled as OEM and that's the one a never ever have any trouble with.

The 210 seems to be a larger car. The rear seat leg room on the wifes 210 seems to be 6 to 8 inches larger than my neighbors 211.

The 211 is the larger car. It is longer, wider, taller, and has a longer wheelbase. Perhaps your neighbor is taller than your wife?

They're pretty much totally different cars, other than they both burn diesel fuel, IMO! I like 'em both!
