om606 cylinder head removal pictorial?

So after I finally got my om602 working right, turned out my clear bio diesel lines were sucking air I started searching Craigslist. Came across a 98 e300 195k with a blown head gasket. Took a few days to see it. But I was able to look at it before the owner arrived. It was at shopping center where he shut it down. After some sort haggling I got the car for a very good price. Can only find one spec of rust on a fender and it lived it's whole life in Michigan. Engine started right up with a big cloud of smoke. Brakes a little spongy and oil pretty milkshaky. So I figured I would pull the head and take the risk. Car is in good enough shape I would feel comfortable putting i n a used engine if this one is trashed.

Anyways looking for a step by step, all the ones I found the pic have been removed by photobucket. Currently valve cover off, injector lines removed, cam zip tied, exhaust manifold unbolted. What else needs to be removed?

Of course the intake manifold needs to come off, and also the EGR pipe. There is a long guide rail pin that holds the tensioner spring. It is removed with a spacer and a approx 30mm long bolt (5 or 6mm?) with all threads and a nut. The nut is tightened against the spacer, and it pulls the pin out. You may need to add spacers to get it all the way out. Once the guide rail pin(s) are out, the entire cam assembly ("girdle" I think it is called) can be removed. This will allow access to all the head bolts.

So does the fuel filter mount need to be removed or that attached lower? Also what about the oil filter chamber?

Head gasket R&R is not a job you should even THINK about attempting without an FSM sitting in front of you. If you get cheap or take short-cuts, you'll be back doing it again sooner rather than later. Possible with some negative consequences. Do it right, do it once. Get the FSM and follow it to the letter.

The fuel filter housing needs unbolting but can stay in position.

Agree on the FSM manual comment for two reasons, cam removal/install has a set procedure which if not aware can be overlooked.

Bolts stretch and tightening sequence, again set procedure which is important to avoid future problems - is the FSM not on-line?

Any idea specifically the bolt size for the tensioner pin? m5 or m6? I have access to a large selection at work and can pick them up for the weekend.

I measured it, it is 6mm. I was not sure because it takes a 5mm Allen. This is what I use:

Also, you can use different length sockets for the spacers.

That bolt is in fact an m6. Also in the future you may need to chase the hole as mine would not thread due to debris and a little deformation.

So that w124 performance manual appears to omit the cam brace/cap removal sequence. Anyone have a picture of it?
