Small ouch today with the 85 wagon...

Driving home from work today truck in front had a blow out and his tire hit the front of my car.

Got his info, filed an incident report with Sheriff's office. Will see if he's upstanding and covers the damage.

Damage is Euro bumper, grill , air dam and condenser fan from a quick glance. So around 600 bucks in parts I'm figure.

You got that right ... Euro Bumpers are priced through the roof. I regret selling mine for $100 or so bucks each. Try $250 to $500 and that is dicey just for one. Remainder might be junkyard finds if you are lucky. If you go through your insurance company get ready to get rocked. In South Carolina, they could total the car once you hit 40% of the value of the car in repairs ...

Bumper chroming businesses can possibly straighten it for you.

The reason those euro bumpers hold up so well in any fender bender is the reinforcment built -in ,a 1/4 box steel welded piece is what Ive usually have come across.I would call that an easy bolt on fix ,diy and a us bumper will have you on the road for less than $200. Your bumper is fixable.

How would you value the car? Find a like one? Good luck. Full euro everything in german on car, leather not mbtex, etc... rust free? I guess I could present the 6k offer I turned down for it. Either way, I'll fix it and continue to drive it, I like the car too much and plan on keeping it till I die.

Do wipers work on USDOT bulbs? I thought you had to go with Euro headlamps to use them. I've seen that type of Euro bumper available for a reasonable price. Might have to look into international shipping, though. Coupe bumpers are another story...

There's a lot of speculation going on here, seems like the guy was cool about it since he traded info and filed a report. Talk to his insurance company, they should be sending someone to do an appraisal of your car. Once they do the appraisal, you'll know how much they're willing to offer you. If you like that number, great, take it. If you don't, have an independent appraisal done and fight with them on it.... good luck there.

Or you can file a claim with your insurance if you have full coverage, they'll then have to go after the guy's insurance company for the money. This way is easier, but may end up raising your premiums.

I've been told that Euro bumpers were given reinforcements to meet USDOT standards. I believe they ran as-is in Germany.

Yes that is correct. I just got back from Europe, and saw several bumpers, none had the reinforcement.

Agreed. Finding a straight Euro bumper in the 'States is hard, and would eat up more than half of the $600 that was estimated.

Cory I've got a few parts you could probably use to get it fixed up. I have a grille, the plastic pieces in the air dam (will have to double check and make sure nothing is broken), and I believe I have that center metal piece below the damn (looks bent on yours) but in dark blue. I can get photos if interested. I'll be heading to Altanta the afternoon of June 10th if you'd like to meet me at the TN welcome center going Eastbound

I'd sell all to you for $60.00

It's like I told the guy, my car is no show piece, I understand that. waiting for the report etc to be finished I googles the broken stuff, and came up with 600 bucks. Of course that's using after market grill but mine was not perfect to begin with. The bumpers, there are several in the 150-250 range +100 for shipping from the UK. I'll gather all the info and drop him an email in this weekend. I'm sure he no more want to go through his insurance that anyone else would. and we are not talking a great deal of $$$ here. I told him I would be happy if he just covered the parts I need and I would take care of putting it together. It was a tire, not like he had a lot of control over it.
