I know less than nothing about painting except it takes more patience than I have.

Yes, and my friend has one. He does polishing and painting of these for restoration shops. It is expensive, but I dare say they turn out better than new.

This is the problem in a nutshell ~ I'm retired and on a very limited budget these days, not that I had much before .

I have one set of cabs re painted by an average body shop, they looked fine at freeway speeds I'd imagine but whenever I look at them, I'm not pleased .

There's a lot of cleaning and polishing to be done first, I can do the cleaning (I'm one of those goofs who routinely removes and cleans both the insides of his hub caps and the entire wheel / tire assembly because it bothers me) and maybe some/most (?) of the polishing , it's all really labor intensive .

I just want to hand over some cleaned and polished the best I can hub caps for proper masking and painting so they'll look new and will last .

He will polish and paint, or just paint. His price is $75 each. They have to be stainless steel, not chromed steel. If you are happy with your polishing, then he will paint them.

Thumbs up

That's an affordable price, less than 1/4 what I was originally quoted . .

Now all I have to do is learn to walk again and have the steel plates removed from my arm and heal up enough where I can get back to polishing....

Let me clarify- His price is $75 EACH to PAINT each cap. If you want your cap polished, it too is $75 EACH. If you want both polishing and painting, it is $150 for EACH CAP.

You must have misunderstood. It has always been that price, and that is all I have ever known. My math comes to $600 complete for a set of four (using your caps).

Thanks Guys.
You have made me feel much better about what I paid to have the entire car painted.

On another note: I have a set of aluminum rims I was thinking about putting on this car since I have been weeding out my other Mercedes projects. Any advantage?

Post Paint & Wheels

Don't feel too badly ~ when I had my '80 300CD totally re sprayed in original oriental Red, they laid on beautiful paint (no body damage/rust), painted my perfectly working sun roof shut, broke every plastic lens on the car and destroyed the windshield's alloy trim by not allowing the Glass Shop I'd paid to install a brandy new windshield and Dealer grommet.....

There was more I've mercifully wiped from my memory but paying about $3K for all this damage led me to dump the car at a dead loss to some guy who's prolly still estatic as this was the low mileage one I fully sorted the Klima I HVAC on .

Anyway .

Wheels are a very subjective thing ~ if you like the hub cap look, you can buy alloy disc wheels from junk yards or forum members, I did so recently for my '82 24D as I like the look .

Bundt wheels need constant cleaning else they'll be covered in brake dust no matter what pads you run, in 500 miles .

Pay your monies, make your choice .

Your Coupe looks *so* nice with hub caps I may try them on my '84 300CD .
