The guy in the video uses the wrong acronym for the device. SAM stands for Signal Acquisition Module which picks up data from various devices in the front of the vehicle and controls low power loads.

The device you're looking for is the main power distribution block that is under the hood in the main fuse box. There is an explosive disconnect in the fuse block, if you have an airbag deployment it triggers the charge and blows open the link. Basically renders the car electrically inert to avoid arcing/sparking cables.

If you've ever had the misfortune of being at an accident scene the first thing the firemen do is find the battery and snip the cables with bolt cutters. This does it automatically.

I had the SAM out of the box, and did not see any other unit in there (I may be blind and overlooked it). If I find it, could this be the problem even if some of the electrical accessories work?

When I get home this afternoon I can check in Star Finder on my Xentry computer and see where this thing is located in a 211. My experience with this platform is that it shares a lot of stuff with the ML (164) but I've never actually laid eyes on the insides of a 211.

That would be great, thanks. When I looked at the video I was hoping to find a similar unit that had a bad fuse, and that would be easy to fix. When I got the SAM apart, I just put it back together knowing I could not do anything with it.

The car in question is a 211.065?

If so the "F32 Front Prefuse" is under the passenger footwell carpet.

No pyro fuse on this model as far as I can tell however. Looks like that was on later models.
