2009 vs 2008 E320 Bluetec

Other than year of manufacturing , are there any major differences between E320 Bluetec 2008 to the same car 2009 ?
My 2009 was involved in an accident and insurance gave a total loss.I found a similar car year 2008 with half of the mileage than mine was.
Question: are they exactly the same car in the major functions like transmission, engine, computers etc. or not?

I believe they are the same ('07, '08, '09). One may have more or less options than the other, but those things being equal, they are the same car. However, there is a period when they went to adblue. I think it was in 2010, (could have been in late 2009?) so you should be good there. That would be the only difference I can think of.

The mechanicals and such are exactly the same from 2007 through 2009. The only difference is the 2009 had a newer generation audio/nav system, so the 2008 will be a step backwards in that regard. Options may vary between cars, but the great majority of them had just the P1 option package anyway.

None of the OM642 based W211 sedans (MY2007 through MY2009) were equipped with AdBlue (even though they say Bluetec on the rear). They did not begin AdBlue until the introduction of the W212 sedan in MY2010.

Note this is different than the W164 SUVs, where they did start AdBlue in MY2009. They carried this for two years until the introduction of the W166 in MY2011. On the SUVs they did use the Bluetec name to signify the addition of the AdBlue. My non-AdBlue 2008 ML320 is badged CDI and 4Matic on the rear.

The audio system was updated for the MY2009 W212s. It replaced the user interface to the menu driven style as found on the W212 and W166.

When I started looking at the W211/W212s, I found that most every 2nd gen W211 has the P1 package (premium audio, navigation, MHI phone cradle, heated seats, rear window roller shade, passenger door blinds, and a few more things I can’t recall at the moment).

Also don’t forget to ensure the comparison reflects leather vs MB-Tex seats.

Agreed, I think the only thing they changed from 2008 to 2009 was the audio system from NTG1 to the NTG2.5.
