1995 E300D Paint Codes

I'm trying to determine the correct paint for touching up the front bumper and license plate holder on my '95 E300D. I'm having trouble determining what the correct paint codes are for the upper and lower colors on the car.

I've searched on line and found reference to the plate affixed in front of the radiator, a photo of the one on my car which I've attached. But it seems to only contain the color of the upper portion of the car, 175--anthracite grey. But I don't see any second number that would denote the lower color. Anyone have any idea of what that color number or name would be?

Thanks for any assistance!

Regards,
Tom

W210 paint code

See post 5 for a tag decode and my post 7 for color codes. Towards the bottom of post 7 are trim and gloss / matt codes.

From what I recall, 2 tone cars always had the same color combo but I'm not seeing anything on your tag.

Later cars 96 - 97 had single tone but lower trim / mirrors were painted matt. These matt colors had an extra digit added to the base color. For a 97 SL320, Gloss 702 Smoke Silver would become matt 9702 Smoke Silver, however this does not show up on my data plate.

My 97 C280 702 Smoke Silver has darker bumper trim that the dealer tells me is 7176 but this does not show up on the data plate.

A couple of other places to look for option codes, under the back seat and in trunk under the rear shelf ( the shelf where the speakers are ). My 97 E320 parts car has info in both of those places and your earlier car might also.

1995 E300D Paint Codes

Thanks much for your references which I'll check out today as well as searching the car for the color codes in the locations you suggested. The lower color on the car is definitely different from the upper one, a much lighter grey. To my eye, it appears as two visibly different colors. I'll let you know what I determine.

The 2 tone cars have enough of a color split to make it apparent to anyone. If we line all colors up from white 0 to black 100, the 2 tone color would be maybe 10 away.

White gets light gray lower / Black gets slate lower for example.

If the difference on your car is more subtle, post 2 tone cars that have a single color have matt clear coat making them a slight shade different.

Thanks much for that info, 97 SL320. I hadn't seen that spec tag, and wouldn't have found it without your suggestion, though I've owned the car for a couple of years. Haven't had reason to fully climb into the trunk and look up!

Appears to me the options sheet shows paint code 172, which equates to Anthracite Grey, based on the list provided by you and ROLLGUY. I spoke to a local body repair shop and he suggested that the lower color should be 7172, though I don't see that listed on any of the paint lists and don't think this is correct based on the color differences between upper and lower body. Also the number following the paint code shows 175, though I'm not sure this references a color and it also doesn't appear on the paint list. See photos for car's color scheme and codes. Both 172 and 175 appear on the tag in front of the radiator.

Any idea what the lower color should be based on this info? I'm planning on replacing the bumper and bumper protector, damaged by PO, and will eventually want to purchase more than just touch up amounts of paint.

Thanks again for your help!

I found this:
https://www.paintscratch.com/touch_up_paint/Mercedes-Benz/1995-Mercedes-Benz-All-Models.html
but it does not even show Anthracite Grey as a color choice for 1995.

I also found this:
https://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/colour_codes_mercedes

Also, the 175 could be the interior color: 175A MB-TEX MUSHROOM From: http://www.mercedesmedic.com/paint-codes/

When my '91 350SDL got wrecked, a few pieces of the cladding needed painting. They were painted with supposedly the correct color, but did not look good with the rest of the cladding. I paid an extra couple hundred to have all of it removed and painted. You might want to consider the same. It may look better to paint all of it, even if you get the exact color that the cladding was originally painted. That way you can pick the best matching color.

RG copied the list in my other thread.

7172 should be the matt version but still same color as 172. Apparently any 4 digit code is for trim as per my 97 C280 having 702 main , 9702 mat lower , and 7176 for a small amount of bumper trim.

Given the radiator tag and paper tag do not show a second color, ( dashes for OT ) I wonder of the two tone was done by a previous owner?

Lack would be paint

UT would be some German aberration for upper ?

OT would be some German aberration for lower ?

An auto body supply store can use a color gun to generate a formula. This won't get you the factory number but it will be a match for the current paint.

This is the tag from my dark grey 1995 e300d I have a much lighter plastic trim color than the main body just like yours. Need to replace the drivers door, so I'll be hitting the nearby Sherwin Williams auto paint store to see what they can mix up for me. Were you able to find a good match?

'95 E300D Lower Paint Code - Resolved

I put the question of the lower cladding paint code, which I asked about over a year ago, on the back burner for a while, but recently picked up the search again. My 1995 has a two-tone combo, a dark grey, 7172 on top and a lighter grey on the bottom. No color code was indicated for the lower panels on the spec sheet pasted on the bottom of the rear window tray, visible from the trunk.

While at the local Mercedes parts department earlier this week, I asked about getting touch up paint for the lower color. The very cooperative parts guy did a long search and found that two-tone 1995 E series cars with 7172 (anthracite grey) as the upper color had cladding that was 7176 (mussel grey or muschelgrau). Although there was no availability locally, he was able to get it from a west coast warehouse.

He pulled up a page on the computer that showed all the color combinations for two-tone cars from that series, so if you are looking for lower paint codes, see your local dealer.
