A cdi starter is a pain the you know what
no luck getting the bolts out. my ticket is full because of its an
nightmare pulling these bolts off. I just broke a brand new socket swivel. a bestirred of a project

Thanks for the heads up. There are three CDI's in my family, so there is a good chance I will need to do this job one day. Oh, and there is an '07 Bluetec as well. I have no idea how hard that would be.

Looks like there is a lot to remove to get at the starter.
Starter motor replacement OM651 220,250 CDI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKk1sNqmvSA In the attached picture are impact u-joints. They don't have the same range of flex as the other type of u-joints do but being made for use with impact wrenches they are stronger. Note the ones pictured are from harbor freight. I have never used those so cannot comment on them. The ones I have look similar but are Sears/Craftsman.
