Help !! Electrical-Solved !!!!!!
Searched already. Got nothing. HELP !!
All of a sudden I don't have High Beam Flashers, Power to the Seats, Power to the windows. And probably other stuff I don't know about yet. '86 300 SDL. This happened all at once this AM. All the fuses are good and check out. Ther are about 6 ice cube relays in the fuse box but I don't know what they're for. They are not labled. Most of the other electrical stuff works I think. Is there a common relay or relays that control this stuff. I don't have a schematics to check it out and would sure like some help. NEW : Discovered that the power seats adjust, get this, if the door is open but not if it's closed. Solution ::::FINALLY !!!!! After looking at the Fuse designation chart in the fuse box, I saw that Fuse # 17 which is suppose to be for: wipe/wash system, optical horn, relay headlamp cleaning unit/comfort circuitry/window lift-tem 86 looked a little suspicious. Changed it out and everything works. Note that this fuse did not mention any of the problems that I was having other than the criptic "window lift-term.86" This fuse fixed my High beam flashers, all seats and all windows. This is on my '86 300 SDL. Other models may vary. Glad that's over.

main fuse bar
Hello alan911
main fuse bar Black plastic box roughly 1.5 X 3 inch on fender well area. Pull cover, should see two metal strips; bolted at each end. If one of them is broken, that is your problem.

Well I looked and I don't have that plastic box on my 300SDL '86.
Just the box with the Glowplug relay with one 80A metal strip inside. It's o.k. There is a metal strip inside the fuse box and I get 12V on it with the ignition off. This is o.k. also. Now what ???

Alan911,
You need to get a wiring diagram for your model and start tracing wires with a voltmeter or. There are wiring diagrams in the MB manuals or maybe someone here may be able to send you a copy. I suggest you color the wires on the wiring diagram as they are marked. It makes tracing much easier. As far as the door open/closed problem, there is probably a loose connection or broken wire in the door or door post where wires go thru. P E H |

Ive got a elec. dia. up to '85 on a 123. I think I'm going blind reading it. I'ts very, very close but no cigar as to an '86/126.
After 8 hours of searching and a little help from others, I got a lead that it may be a "Diode" issue located somewhere near the fuse panel. But I can't seem to find it yet. Still looking. I'm just going a little nuts trying to get this resolved by using this board and without going to the "Stealership" When I resolve it I will be sure to post the results on this board 'cause I know others will have this issue eventually and I wouldn't want them to go through the same frustration as myself. Oh well.....

More on the seats...they should adjust with the door open and the key out...at least mine do on the 560, presumably to allow the seat to be moved into position before entry. With the door closed you should need the ignition on in order to adjust the seats. If they don't move it could be one of those relays...but I don't recall which one is involved.
Plus you should be able to turn on the radio without the key in the ignition...learned that trick from Glen and his son at one of the West Coast GTG's.

Mike's description of the seat operation is correct, that is the way they work on my SDL. The fuse box is under the hood. If I remember correctly it is near the master cylinder.

O.k. I'm a believer. Seats working when the door is open is "NORMAL" and it makes logical sense if they need adjusting before you sit down and insert the key.
Now, if I can just figure out why they (with the door closed) and the windows and the high beam flasher all quit working at once, I'll be home free. Stay tuned......

Yeah, I took a look at that.
If it's what I think you're talking about, it's actually a 1" brownish/black square 2 pronged plastic holder near the rear of the fuse box. Actually, there is a Diode inside of it. It's not a fuse. I think it's there as a logic device to only allow voltage to flow in one direction for some reason. What it does, and what it's for, I'm not totally sure. I tested it and it works o.k. I put voltage on the pins and get continuity only going in one direction as it design to do.

What is a "high beam flasher"?? Are you saying your high beams don't work?
Are you also saying that you have no power to ANY of your windows? W126 CD's are available and I believe they do contain an ETM. Tim |

Yes, no power to all windows. No power to seat adjustments (when the door is closed) , no flashers. Happened all at once.
It's not a relay. It's not a fuse. Its not the diode. It can't be just a wire or a switch. There is some device somewhere that affects all these things simaltaneously, but nobody knows what it is. Oh....When you pull the directional arm towards you, it turns your high beams on. It's a Euro-thing ... but its on all imports.

WRONG
It can be a wire.
Shorting across others. It can also be a common ground point corroded. Quote:

long shot
I had some wierd things happen on my SDL. I pulled all the relays near the fuse box, cleaned and re-installed. The problems went away.
