Indeed they are fused. Each headlight (including the fogs) are on a different fuse.....thats why I think it might be possible to exceed the heat/draw of one wire to a light as they are only one to a fuse....

I have a w126, not w123, but...

I installed an 1156 LED bulb in my third brake light and it works fine. It does not interfere with cruise at all. Since the bulb points towards the interior at the reflector, it illuminates the entire fixture, and the bulb I purchased has several LEDs on the side to help with the illumination. I also am planning on retrofitting a rear fog, but I am not sure about how to go about doing it. Is it as simple as running another wire up to the switch?

There is no reason it, or any other light, could interfere with cruise.

Sure there is. The cruise computer check to see that you aren't using the brakes by trying to ground through the brake lamp bulbs. No ground = lights on. LEDs being diodes don't let current flow the opposite way through them.

Which isn't a problem since LEDs in housings with reflectors designed for incandescent bulbs not only don't look good, they are unsafe since LEDs emit a focused point of light. Nobody in their right mind would replace all their lights with LEDs.

Since landstrasse36 only put it in his third brake light, which is a generally useless light anyways, his remaining lightbulbs serve the cruise function normally. Even if all lights were replaced with LED, a single resistor to ground would suffice.

Mine doesn't look like a stupid dot though like most of them do. The bulb doesn't point at the car behind me, it points towards the front of my car and reflects back. I like having the LED third light since it lights up faster than the rest.

I'm about to put an LED bulb in my high mount 3rd as well, that is until i can find a nice FULL LED 3rd brake light, hopefully on fleabay, or @ a pick n pull
