Valve adjustment

to clarify, i have dismantled many Mercedes cars from the 114 to the r129 chassis and everything in between, including the engine of a w123--in some cases completely dismantling the engine. just last week i removed the oil filter housing, the tube that leads from it to the turbo, and the oil lines that go from filter housing to oil cooler. I'm no stranger to this engine--i am a stranger to fixing it though, and the workings of a diesel engine in general. that doesn't mean i know how to do a valve adjustment. it's one thing to turn a wrench to dismantle a part, it's quite another, as you know, to turn one in order to fix something or put it back together, especially when it concerns items which require precision work.
Valve adjustment OM617 FYI.

The overriding point is simply that your question of how to increase the engine performance cheaply is not answerable other than to say you cannot make it make more horsepower cheaply.

Its not a chebby v8 with a two barrel carb and restrictive exhaust manifolds which you can slap a four barrel and dual exhausts and feel a real difference for not too much moola.

They're on to him, LMN is gone and so is LMN_. I guess I gave him too much credit. An IP address would be easy to change. On the other hand, his obstinate writing style would be a tad harder to hide.

His ego though had to announce via initials who it was, though the writing "style" clearly did all but write his signature.
Lance and that angst-ridden ego of his. Too bad he just can't "play nice", but that "gotta-be-rightus" is an awful affliction......

Can't argue with that, as I have pointed out to him before.

Let's see, in last few months we've endured threads such as:

How do you make a 300D go faster, like totally! (This one)

What do you like to smoke in your diesel?

Poor things in front of rich things...

Wish me luck biatches, I'm detailing.

Bling Bling Grill.

and a bunch of redundant threads that 5 seconds with the search feature would yield hundreds of identical threads, and the solution.

...and you wonder why people seem annoyed?

You also provoke established, very helpful members and joke about how they don't contribute, when you have so far contributed nothing but drivel. Just for the record, I don't contribute hardly anything of substance either, but at least I know my place in the lower caste. I sure know how to buy them, though.

OK, this is a very strong candidate for "understatement of the year".
His shrewdness and "eye for a deal" are turning legendary. I just wished we lived closer so I could drive some of his purchases prior to them finding a new owner.
It also speaks volumes when everything somebody purchases are marketable enough for other folks to want to buy them, and hand over more $$$$ than was originally paid.
Pretty impressive for a dude who is younger than some of my socks.......

ok, understood. i don't want to break the bank on this car, and if there's nothing that can be done relatively on the cheap, i'll go ahead and keep bringing the engine up to spec by doing things like valve adjustments, etc.

although throwing in a v8 "chebby" sounds like a tempting idea
