Pump is in
I have installed the pump and I am still doing some tuning on my transmission. I have quite a bit of flare on my trans but need to adjust the vacuum modulator. I have had quite of few cars with power but this diesel has some great torque.
I still haven't hooked up the ALDA boost reference and I can't believe how much of a difference this pump has made. |

We should get together this summer and I could show you the car. Are you still doing the races this might be a easy way to meet up.

Well I have been enjoying my upgraded pump and really showing it of to friends. I have just recently started getting some white smoke when I idle at stop lights and the dip stick tube will spit oil out when idling. I think I will be doing a new set of rings. I did a oil flush and I am using marvel mystery oil with this oil change and so fare no change just takes a little longer to happen at the light. 249000 miles and allot of flogging just was a little to much for the rings. Any other suggestions to try before I pull the motor and re-ring and gasket it. Always something when you modify a car just wish it would of lasted a little longer.

Compression test first... with the engine hot, not cold. That will give you an idea how worn things are.
Did you put a turbocharger on a non-turbo engine, btw...? Ooops - nevermind, I went back and read the old posts, you did turbo a NA engine. I think you might have cooked it... there's a reason why the turbo 606 internals were beefed up. I'd drive it until it blows up, then find a 606 turbo motor to swap in, with your uber-pump. I wouldn't waste money re-ringing a NA 606 motor that's pushing >200hp. Last edited by gsxr; 07-15-2013 at 07:43 PM. |

I'm with gsxr on getting a 606 turbo block. I want to turbo my 95 diesel, and am looking for a turbo motor for it.
I did think these motors would do fine with minimal boost based off my experience with the Detroit Diesel 6.2 motor. I've had two 6.2s and turboed one. I suspect the inline six mercedes designed motor is much stronger. Shares the basic design of one of the strongest diesel motors IMO, the cummins 5.9 (emphasis on basic) with the inline 6 block and bosch pump. i'm looking for a turbo black because I know that I'll want to go zoom zoom. It very well may just be the rings, though I think for the same amount of effort and resources you could just swap the block, be worry free and push a lot more HP and Torque |

Sounds like possible melted pistons or ring lands.
I dont know if the non turbo engine utilized piston cooling nozzles?

Ahh. Glad to learn that tidbit.
The older truck engines used nozzles, but not a cooling gallery in the piston like the newer engines use. As power increased, some of the cracking seemed to start in the cooling gallery. Trade offs, as always. |

Would it be a possibility to install the 606.962 connecting rods and pistons on a 912?

I am wondering the same might be easier to get a set of used piston and rods to put in my block. I also remember jeemu he had a na engine he used the na pistons and had custom rods built and had the pistons coated. I would be interested in that just to save time and money of hunting down a good used .962 and having it shipped to ID to install it to find out it needs parts to.

Depends if your cylinder bores are still in spec or not. If not... there's no point putting more money into it. 606.962's can be had for under $2k complete.
