F**K this meet....everything was cool til 177miles away from the meet i find out some son of a B**** took my oil cap off and didnt put it back on.
So as im on the yolo cosway almost home i notice im losing power.....i give it a tad more pedal and it slows down more....having known before this is either "A" low oil or "B" clogged filter i pull off the road asap......pop the hood to find what?? OIL everywhere and a half cocked oil cap sitting sideways. This motor was my high compression baby ......once in my wagon it would pull like no other sense it still has the high gears in the back for a non turbo. so after adding oil and replacing the cap i now have a motor that acts like it has 500k instead of 165k ......tomorrow is the compression check to see just how bad it is. On a cold day with no waiting for glow plugs my car would fire right up....yes thats how good the compression was. SO WHO EVER TOUCHED MY OIL CAP SPEAK UP.....you dont have to get me a new motor JUST LET ME YELL AT YOU A LITTLE BIT!!!!!!!!!! BTW at the meet my oil cap was on tight and no oil was on the car so someone else did it not me.

Just got home and had a really good time. It was a lot of driving today (but I know others did more), but all in all a blast. We meet, drove, ate, drove, then hit up pick and pull. I got a ton of pictures.
Garrett, those that stayed said they didn't touch your car, so I'm not sure. Hopefully it will be alright. Pictures later. Oh yea, got a new signature picture coming up.

I was glad I was there at the last drive, But now I am wishing I was there today!
Looking at Garret's pics, looks like a great meet! Sorry to hear what happened Garret. I guess the lesson here is that in any type of meet, check and make sure everything is in order before heading out. There are a lot of people checking out your car (even people not involve in the meet) and anything can be out of place.

I had a great time too even though I wasn't in my MB. I did finally get to see where my BOV pressure was set to.....20psi
I think Zack experienced that. Garrett, man that sucks. I did the same thing to my 240D but it was only for a block and a half and my hood pad will never look the same. I'll post some pictures somwhere and I have a cool 30 second 90mb video of all of the cars from Smothers in route to the Cheese Castle place for lunch. I had a great time seeing the sights and meeting old friends and many new ones. I hope to see you all at the next gathering. ....meet at greasil's the next time? I hope there's plenty of parking

I do not read the code to require 3 stoplamps, only two on later manufactured vehicles per Cal Veh Code: 24603. Every motor vehicle which is not in combination with any other vehicle and every vehicle at the end of a combination of vehicles shall at all times be equipped with stoplamps mounted on the rear as follows: (a) Every such vehicle shall be equipped with one or more stoplamps. (b) Every such vehicle, other than a motorcycle, manufactured and first registered on or after January 1, 1958, shall be equipped with two stoplamps, and section (h) reads: (g) Any vehicle may be equipped with supplemental stoplamps mounted to the rear of the rearmost portion of the driver's seat in its rearmost position in addition to the lamps required to be mounted on the rear of the vehicle. Supplemental stoplamps installed after January 1, 1979, shall be red in color and mounted not lower than 15 inches above the roadway. The supplemental stoplamp on that side of a vehicle toward which a turn will be made may flash as part of the supplemental turn signal lamp. A supplemental stoplamp may be mounted inside the rear window of a vehicle, if it is mounted at the centerline of the vehicle and is constructed and mounted so as to prevent any light, other than a monitorial indicator emitted from the device, either direct or reflected, from being visible to the driver. Note the word MAY not SHALL So as I would interpret it, the 3rd brake light may be installed and it is not REQUIRED therefore I do not see how the following applies: Lighting Equipment Requirements 24252. (a) All lighting equipment of a required type installed on a vehicle shall at all times be maintained in good working order. Lamps shall be equipped with bulbs of the correct voltage rating corresponding to the nominal voltage at the lamp socket. Note the words, REQUIRED TYPE. Again 3rd brake light is not required. As far as the frisk, I also would argue that he had no reasonable suspicion to believe, nor articulable facts to support such a believe that a crime was occuring/about to occur and that you were armed and dangerous. However, you damages may be minimal. Again, the probable cause/reasonable suspicion standard to pull you over is absent in your case, therefore the rest is fruits of the poisonous tree, exclusionary rule applies. There you go, free legal advice; remember, you get what you pay for. ![]() Any other attorneys should weigh in and fill in any deficiencies in my short analysis. I would argue it is unreasonable for an officer not to understand/know a law he is attempting to enforce. But what do I know, the Gov't is always right and all powerful. Unfortunately, the Constitution gets in the way sometimes for them.
