As I expected, we will have awesome weather for the drive today. Also disapointed that so many have droped out last minute. We will miss meeting some new MBZ enthusiasts and they will miss a once in a lifetime (although for some, this will be their second) event. Hope to post some pics soon.......Dennis

The Coastal Cruise was a really fun excursion this year.

I had second thoughts however upon heading out for the 2 hour drive up the coast to the meeting point. Five minutes in and I and got caught in a serious downpour.

Things cleared up pretty quickly, but the wind was just whipping.

But by the time the group gathered at the starting point, the weather was perfect and no wind.

And the drive was very scenic and enjoyable.

And the private car collection was nothing short of amazing!

Thank you Patrick for the pictures, I think some of them make the cars look better than they actually are!
We had some trouble at the start with people getting lost, but we all got together on PCH and we were good to go. The weather was perfect again (the umbrella worked!) and the scenery was spectacular! Parts of Latigo Canyon had been re-paved since the last time, so the road was smoother. We did encounter MANY cyclists along the windy road, which made the blind corners a little scary (for the cyclist). At one point there was a frustrated foreign car driver (Subaru WRX) behind the parade that wanted to practice his rally skills, so I found a turnoff for us to stop.
After a few more wrong turns and one minor breakdown, we arrived at Pickles. Excellent food and service! A short drive to the Roth's, our hosts opened their home/museum to us. Although Fred is German, he has never owned a German car.
All the cars in the collection are Museum Quality and some are VERY Rare. The Roth's have done all the body (including the fiberglass) and paint work and most of the upholstery in the cars.
Thanks again to Fred & Deanna Roth for your hospitality.

The turnout was great - we had just 2 gassers and the rest were diesels. I am very pleased with the turnout and kinda surprised at how far people drove just to get to the starting point. We had more than half the drivers come from outside LA/OC/SB county. Jim came from Grass Valley (450 m), Jack & Brian from Roseville (410), Nik drove down from Sacramento (400m), Alec & Charlie from the Bay area, Paul & Bob from San Diego.
Rich drove 95 miles from Hesperia, Buzz - 54m, Ben & I -about 40 and Derrick had the shortest drive at 38.
All totaled, the combined mileage just to get to the start point was over 2500 Miles! Another memorable M.B.E.G. event in the books.
I look forward to more comments/pictures from the participants and we are already starting to plan our next event!

I put a little less than 300 miles on the car on this trip. Every mile was well worth it. A while back I inquired about having a North meets South cruise, and nothing came of it. However, this cruise turned into just that. Thanks to all you folks from the top for joining us down here. My brother and I will be planning the next one soon.....Rich

Well, you have your work cut out - I'm wondering how you're going to top the visit to the Roth's.

I'm sure you'll figure something out...
