That's a different kind of project. This puppy is slated for an alloy M117, since I have like 7 of those taking up space. five are spoken for, so I am not short of projects. -CTH

I have been looking for a W107 SLC or a C140 car to be the mule for this project that was around 2k. I found a great SLC in California, but the shipping alone would have been outside the budget I set. So today I found a 1999 CL500 that needs work, but it runs.

I have a bunch of other things lined up to work on ahead of this, but at least I have the car. In the mean time, I'll have to upgrade "it runs" to "it drives well", since it needs an exhaust, the check engine light is on and there are a couple of "cosmetic flaws", like a broken tail light.

I've been passively hunting a C140 for a while now. Never was a huge fan of the W140 when it was new. I preferred the looks of the E38 BMW at the time but they're growing on me.

I believe that there's someone who makes a bell housing that mates a Nissan transmission from a 350Z to an M119.

Yes Dave, it's the M119. I have both an M117 and M119 in the garage, so I can bench fit everything before the in-car installation. -cth

Is the "1999" CL500 a 140, or a 215?

Where is the SLC located? Do you have a link to it?

The slc was about an hour north of Sacramento. It's gone.

The CL is a W140.

it followed me home and I'm gonna keep it. Fun to drive with no brakes. Managed to get it into the garage using just the emergency brake. -CTH

I'm late to the party. Any aftermarket clutches that are known to do well behind the M120?

My clutch guy custom fabricated my clutch plate. The easy part was getting the right hub for the transmission and outer diameter for the clutch disk. The fun part was deciding on the marcel springs so that the clutch would release smoothly, the way you would want a Mercedes to behave.

I would presume the same 3 parameters apply to your situation (know the input shaft, know the disc surface, know the RPM & torque range expected) and give them to somebody that does this for a living.

The ring gear diameter should be sufficient to carry a flywheel that will accommodate a 10.4" (264mm) clutch, such as used in Ford & GM cars.
