Success!! Reassembled the slave cylinder and reinstalled it(PITA with the car only 1-1/2 feet up). Had to fix a brake line I knew was broken because the clutch and brakes share a master resovior. They are working slightly but will be addressed next. I tried my trusty mightyvac to vacuum bleed it but I couldn't get a pedal. I think the master was stuck in the depressed position. So I filled the mighty vac resovior with clean fluid and used the compressor to reverse fluid injection bleed it(VERY IMPORTANT IF YOU USE THIS METHOD TO TURN YOUR REGULATOR DOWN TO ALMOST NOTHING!!!). Got great pedal. Started it and ran through the gears on the jack stands. Yess!! Got a working clutch and no horrible sounds from the trans. The bent control arm is making racket at the axle but it's bent BAD. I had to let it down and move it under its own power after all that work. Clutch felt good. Excited to make some progress.

Nice work!

Hmm... Is it easier to put the drivetrain in a different vehicle? Or swap out the rear end. Red SL rust bucket has good fuel flow. Maybe easier than cleaning a tank and replacing a rear end. Nah. Probably a ****load of work. Well, if the rear end is garbage anyway, then you can just tear up some tires.

Interesting method you used to get the fluid flowing.

I'm guessing the 4-Speed shifter from the 350sl is tempting right now. Eh?

There is a very wide range of ratios for the 8.8 and limited slips are everywhere. (If you look at the axle tag on the door, a letter + number is a 99.9 % sign it is limited slip , two numbers will be an open axle. The metal tag is usually rusted off the diff, if it exists, 3L45 is LSD , 3.45 is open.

The stock inner Ford joint is a tri pod type , The Drive Shaft Shop ( DSS ) can make axle flanges to convert to bolt on CV's. The trick would be to find a stock MB axle bar of the proper length to minimize custom parts.
I have looked at them but the mounting and driveshaft and outputs are completely different. The gto piece is so close in many ways, it may go in with stock parts and little trim and weld in the subframe.

The M110 had 11 different "replaced by" numbers for the slave cylinder and as you can see from the pic it makes a difference. One on the right is the only one available and requires a new hydraulic line to match the inlet offset.

Here it is. 5am or so with no headlights or hood. Running off a separate fuel tank and pump. It sounds great. Now onto brakes and rear subframe. Anyone have a suggestion or feedback about stock or stainless brakelines? The rubber part I mean.

All new rubber brake hoses being ordered. Febi is dirt cheap but there rubber stuff is bad, a few more bucks gets centric or doorman. I hope i have four usable calipers with all the parts cars but may have to rebuild them too. She runs strong! OK now everything else needs to happen.

It's not available from Benz. Part # is 000 295 82 07 for up to VIN# 011568, 107042, mine, that I bought from ********AZ. Called about the different inlet offset and was told that is what they had under that part#. Had to run new hydraulic line!! A search of the EPC for that part # lists 77 different models.

Me too. When I bought the slave in 2010 ******** was the only catalog that responded to the Benz part #. Nobody listed a 280SL. Didn't even know the EPC existed let alone for cross reference. Thanks.

Epc is great but it would be the **** with real pics and/or dimensions. I've spent hours comparing brAke caliper and rotor sizes and bearings and lots of other things on rock auto. Centric has dimensions for most of its parts which is awsome. I think I can make w140 big brakes on my fintail. Maybe a 107 too.

does anyone have a w123 or 107 with the annular axles(six bolt style) to mesure the distance between mounting flanges on the differential? i measured a 560sl but they have larger axles so the width may be different.

I gave "nobby" the rear axle from a 1983 280sl. It had been submerged in hurricane Sandy in CT in salt water. So it may be worthless. But he took the axles out and stashed it away. I'd think he could probably get you the measurements.
