It varies atate to state but if your in good health the HSA is a good plan. If you wnt a cheap traditional plan check out the National Association for the Self Employed.

Two years ago Fortis and Golden Rule were in the 75-100 range for a 40 y-o man.

If you get a 10,000 claim, that's what the insurance is for. If you have $500 in the HSA and a $1500 deductible, then you have to come up with another $1000 somehow.

But that is if you have a high deductable and a HSA both. I thought someone was advising him to just have a HSA.

You guys are killing me. New Jersey must be on a different planet. The premiums that you guys are talking about are not even close to real dollar amounts in N.J.

States differ in what offerings they have. Some states have made it very unfreindly for insurance companies; i.e. no cap on lawsuits, forced to insure low income people, etc... I have no idea what NJ is like in that respect, but you guys just elected Corzine so I wouldn't look for any help with regard to taxes or business (unless, of course, it's his business).

Please. Don't start me on Corzine.

I'm not party loyal, and in this case I wanted Forrester to win. He jumped the shark with the bull**** about Corzine's exwife. That was the nail in his box.

Corzine is going to be a copy of Bloomberg. Bad news for taxes. Very very very bad news. I predict property taxes will go up even with his BS about lowering them. You can control rates, but you can't stop munis from doing a reval.

What ever, we're really screwed with him. The people will wish McGreevy could come back after they get a dose of this ass-hat. In the end McGreevy did a lot of **** he said he would do. He just couldn't keep his fingers out of the pot. You need a guy like him, but that was a little bit less of a thief.

Oh well. Back to getting me insurance.

Thanks to all for the info, here's what I did.

I found out that through my school I'm able to get insurance, but I missed the deadline to apply for it for this school semester so I'm going to have to wait until February for the next session to start. The cost is roughly $450 from February to September; the deductible is $250 with $35 doctor visits and 20% co pay on surgery and such.

Until that kicks in I've signed up for a Blue Shield temporary plan. It starts tomorrow and will go til February. It has a $1,000 deductible with 20% co pay; there is no preventative care though. Its cost is $130.
