It's a fine day to become an American

At approximately 10:15 MST I, along with about 79 others swore an oath of allegiance to the USA during our naturalization ceremony. Finally, after ten years of actively trying I've become a US citizen. Happily it's the Friday before labor day so I'll be able to remember the anniversary in my later years.

- Peter.

Welcome to America.

I still remember the day when I became an American citizen.

i have a milk carton full of old records. 78s a lot of them are the thick ones dating from the twenties til the early forties. they belonged to a man who was in college when ww2 broke out and went to war but didnt come back. his family left them in the attic where they remained til we bought the house in 1978. when we sold it around 1991 i took the records with me. i keep saying one of these days i will sell them on ebay. they also left his purple heart, awarded posthumously i presume. i found his name in the park on the war memorial by accident.

You can still get the real suff? That's pretty cool. The last bottle I bought didn't do anything for me. I even have one of those spoons somewhere.

If,and I say this doubtfully,IF you have access to pure distilled wormwood absinthe be VERY careful, the effects of it are such that it creeps upon you imperceptibly and soon, just so with Percoset and or smack.

If you are unfamiliar with it you may experience visual and auditory hallucinations and eventually, locomotor ataxia {loss of body and limb control}goes right to the central nervous system.
The only ones who drank it straight and gave it fame were a group of hare-brained self-destructive artistic poseurs, otherwise it is always used as a mixer to add it's unique flavor to cocktails, but pure, unadulterated absinthe is quite uncommon, what they purport to vend as absinthe now simply has essense or wormwood for the taste, the real stuff's illegal

BE VERY CAREFUL!

Carleton, Excuse me but Mistress would hardly call "The Absinthe Minded" boys hairbrained(pun intended) Vinnie Van Gogh who suffered from temporal lobe epilepsy, his roommate Gaugan along with Screwloose Lautrec indulged in absinthe to relieve their physical ailments as this was the pharmacopia available...I do however agree "DO NOT DRINK THE ABSINTHE," unless you have Timothy Leary with you and you can calculate the trajectory of the comet Hailbop (pun intended).

What a beautiful home you have, Carlton, it is an American treasure, lovingly displayed. A privilege to see.

Can you read the Helsinki Sanomat?

You'll love it there this time of year.

I was there in July 2001, one of the best trips of my entire life.

I had the opportunity to finally meet in person my Finnish Pen Pal who'd I been writing to since 1961 and never met.

It was a great moment when we met at the airport, and we went to stay with his family and we all vacationed together. They lived outside of Helsinki in Hyvinkaa (just to the North).

Went hiking in the forest, then cut birch branches and took them into the Sauna, where he stoked up the Sauna, we flayed our bodies with the birch branches, and after that, we went and jumped into the beautiful lake (so many in Finland) and swam, when you emerged you really felt purified, it was incredible.. then had an impromptu BBQ. Peter's wife knew EXACTLY where to find the wild Orange Finnish Cloudberries growing in the forest .

It' s a beautiful country, everyone is so friendly, kind, and trusting and clean.
Forget the myth about the dour Finns, it's just a myth.

One remark that stayed with me was they said they ABSOLUTELY HAD to have a sauna built in the home. They would rather give up their automobile than do without a Sauna.

Guess I was lucky, I got to see it like the tourists neverr do.

A wonderful moment in my friendship, which still continues to this day, which began before the Berlin Wall went up in '61. Friendship like a fine wine, richly decanted.

Don't miss the Military Museum in Helsinki, and the Outdoor Market by the Harbor. And visit the train station near the staduim of the 1952 Olympics too. So much to see and do in Helsingfors. You will love every minute!!

Thanks for the heads up. I bought a bottle of the "modern" absinthe during the holidays last year and I noticed that while it imparted a nice flavor to the drinks, it didn't have any punch to it.
