Ma's mate (Ed) has to work today, so me and the beloved wife finished up holiday festivities with family of friends in CT, got hauled home, loaded up the yada with a few day's worth of stuff and da dog and headed for MD. Amazing how many other fools we joined on the highways in spite of our 4:45 am arrival time

So far today has been trying to find at least some of the fridge, tossing pre-Cambrian food remnants out of said fridge, and clearing pathways between strategic points throughout the house. That and trying to convince Ma that even though she wasn't able to bring home any morphine from the hospital, that doesn't mean she can double up on the oxycontene even if she had been enjoying her opiate induced chats with great-great-grand dad during the commercial breaks.

This is gonna be a long weekend. And not the woo-hoo I don't gotta work! kinda long weekend me thinks
Sorry to hear that, Jim. You sure have a lot on your plate right now. Hope things turn positive for you soon!

Thanks Swamp. I really shouldn't be whining so much - guess I just needed to vent a bit. Yeah, there is a lot going on right now between Ma's health and closing on the house in MD getting delayed - but really, there is much that is good and positive in my world these days.

I am married to the most amazing person I have ever known, I have a job that I enjoy, working with people I like and deeply respect, I have many friends who have repeatedly stepped up in ways big and small to help out with the current chaos, and I'm on the verge of taking a huge step in recovering from the financial melt down created by my ex wife.

So thanks for listening to the grumpy side now and again. Better to snarl here a bit than to start drop kicking puppies, right?

Woot!

Just got a call from our agent. Selling bank finally got their schtuff together and got their power of attorney documents signed (back dated a COUPLE YEARS to cover all the deeds signed without said POA in place ). Closing on the house in Frederick could be as early as tomorrow!

Ma is doing better day to day. Got her all the way downstairs yesterday for movies on the couch, and she ate an entire bar-b-que chicken wing, a tablespoon of potatoes au gratin, and the crunchy skin off a fried chicken boob for lunch today!

Me and the (amazing, wonderful, loverly, decidedly intelligent, and demonstrably hawt) wife are adjusting to sleeping on an air mattress on the first of three floors in Ma & Ed's townhouse. Tomorrow we see the docs and the social workers and hopefully come out of it all with a plan.

Then all we gotta do is figure out how to actually move to Frederick (including cleaning up/closing out the house in CT) in between my work, taking care of Ma, making sure Ed doesn't burn out and fall over (certainly NOT a low risk of happening), keeping Ma's panic attacks under control, and dealing with my (ahem) 'charming' ex-wife as we try and get the kidlet out here for his Christmas break visit.

Progress!

So much for forward progress.

Phone call from selling bank: "We got the original power of attorney! Let's close!"

Email from selling bank: "Here is a copy of the POA - original is going out FedEx P1 overnight! Let's close!"

Response from our real estate attorney: "POA is between Deutsche Bank and GMAC. Deed was signed by Insight Funding. Deed is still invalid."

Woohoo! It's Fry-Dee again! The holiday parties are starting already. I've got something to go to tonight and tomorrow night. Christmas shopping is already well underway, and decorating is slated for this weekend, too.

I've finally gotten my previously unresponsive mower running again, so leaf collection begins in earnest tomorrow. I hope everybody has a terrific weekend.

The day I bought the house I live in now was one of the high ponts in my life. I hope you have as good an experience closing on yours, El Presidente.

For me, closing was an end to the adrenaline rush of looking at homes and negotiating. Then the "fun" of renovation and regular maintenance took over.

Shopping is more fun than owning ... owning is more satisfying though.

Well, let's just officially designate today house closing day. All the selling bank's fubar attempts seem to have been cleared up, cashier check is in hand, and me and the darling missus are heading out to Frederick in an hour to close.

More importantly, we're back from Ma's visit to the vampire. Red's are still a bit low, but not falling. Whites are back to normal! WOOT! As of Tuesday this week, they were ZERO. Zip. Zilch. 0.00 was the reading. Doc's figured the whites would rebound from her first chemo, but not nearly this quickly.

She's getting stronger, able to get around better, and is beginning to eat bigger portions of lots more foods.

Progress!

Good to finally hear some positive stuff from you, Jim.

Well, after spending an extra 3.5 hours in scenic and beautiful O'Hare thanks to a delay on the inbound flight I finally made it home by 2AM. I got a few hours of sleep and came in for the morning to go through the stack on my desk and then I'm off for the afternoon.

We're taking the kids up to Yankee Candle in Deerfield, MA to see Santa, do a little gift shopping and generally get into the Christmas spirit. I do miss their auto museum greatly but the kids love walking through that place with all of their displays so it makes it tolerable.

Finally!!.... I just got off the phone with one of the companies I interviewed with this past week and I accepted their offer. I will receive a "nice" bump in salary as well as a very attractive commission plan, benefits etc.

I was laid off in late September and it was getting older by the day. Now I really feel like getting into the season. I will be starting this Wednesday and plan on really enjoying my last couple of days "off".

For me this truly is "Another Fine Friday" !
