Swamp, I can only imagine the kind of hurt that you've got today......

Today wound up being yet another make it up as we go day - we were supposed to head back to CT last night, but ended up much out much later than planned with Ma at the social worker appointment, then getting sucked into another round of contract negotiations (work stuff) that lasted until I hit the bleary eyed "ain't no way we're driving 5 hours tonight" point. Especially since all 5 hours will be with one of us riding shotgun in a Miata with a crazy 50 pound border collie in our lap.

So I took advantage of the shuffle to actually come in to the office this morning (first time in a week - thank goodness for understanding bosses who know I'm getting the job done even if the hours are broken up into little pieces and my location is all over the map). Made a speed run out to the "new" house to turn on the water and power, got an oil delivery set up for tomorrow morning, and lined up a contractor to go check out and power up the heat tomorrow afternoon.

Rest of the afternoon is an hour long con call in which I get to be the bad guy and try to beat my guys and the CM's guys into submission, hustling back to Ma's before the beltway becomes a parking lot, a two hour long con call with left coast folks who don't seem to understand that a 2:00 PM their time start is a 5:00 PM start for me, packing up said Miata, making sure Ma & Ed are set (Ma is doing much better - ready to take care of herself through the day now!), loading up crazy dog and loverly wife and hauling arse to CT.

Then it's finish loading the trailer, toss the 7 cats into the wagon, caravan to Frederick Saturday, camp out with the kitties, then down to Baltimore Sunday night so we can be there for Ma Monday when she starts her second round of chemo.

Figure we oughta be able to get some sleep oh, maybe the third week of January :P

Thanks Jim, my wife has a real rough time this time of year with all of the holiday memories, and her mom's absence, on top of everything else.

It's a wonder you even know what direction you're headed! Talk about a multi-tasker!!! :)

My daughter is going thru some difficult days at her new (in Feb.) job.
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/2044238-post21.html
Her boss calls her in the other day and told her there are going to be people let go this week in her department. (My daughter is her assistasnt) She then proceeds to tell her who they are! She's been going around her office for the last couple of days in a semi-fog, knowing some of the people she's gotten friendly with will be gone when the axe falls tomorrow.
I gather her boss gave her a pep talk about counting on her to be strong and supportive when the bad news comes. Not to get emotional, cry, etc. Of course, the kid's a wreck.
I asked her if her boss was going to tell the people face to face. "No dad, that's HR's job!"
Merry Christmas.Your'e fired. :rolleyes::eek:

Troubled times.:(

Damn that's rough and a lot for a new hire to have to deal with. That's what sucks when companyies have their FY the same as the calendar year, layoffs around the holidays are all too common.

I'd sure hate to have a job that required me to fire people.

The hardest thing I've had to do in my career prior to becoming a SAHD, was having to be the one to fire my friend of 7 years who still lives around the corner from me. I tried to do it with integrity and help him find another job and we're still friends (luckily). It still bothers me when I think of it though.

I work for a large well-known international pharmaceutical company. There was a departmental meeting today to discuss layoffs. Ten out of about 50 people are planned to be cut. The list was presented and I survived. Almost had a heart attack prior to the announcement.

My father almost passed away this weekend with internal bleeding. He is now out of ICU but still in the hospital to get his blood pressure stable.

These are very stressful times. People are losing their jobs left and right and the ones who are keeping their jobs often are worried about the prospect of being in the next round of layoffs.

I am very cautious these days about commiting myself financially to anything long term.

I hope your dad makes a full recovery and is okay.

Thanks Dee8go, greatly appreciated

In addition to the job cuts my employer will transfer most open positions to Poland and Malaysia.

Niiiice. That's really great. It's sad to see how well all this globalization has worked. It's a smashing success, but it's not helping Americans very much.

Actually, mine has moved way up the list this year. I actually had to go see her and plead with her to take me back this year. I quit using her services a few years ago, because my situation had gotten so much simpler. With my new job and other events recently, I decided I needed her advice more than ever.
